Position Summary 
 
The Supervisor will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of The Children’s Book Bank’s downtown locations. This position oversees literacy-focused programming, manages volunteers and staff, and ensures the storefront provides a welcoming and engaging space for children, families, and the community. The Supervisor works closely with internal teams to support programming, community engagement, and fundraising efforts, helping to advance the organization’s mission to provide equal access to books and foster a love of reading for all children. 

Key Responsibilities 
 

Storefront Operations 

  • Oversee day-to-day book bank operations, ensuring the space is welcoming, organized, and aligned with the organization’s mission. 

  • Engage with visitors to share information about available programs, literacy initiatives, and organizational goals. 

  • Develop procedures for customer interactions and daily operations to maintain consistency and a high-quality visitor experience. 

  • Lead programming activities and community events in the book bank to enhance engagement. 

 
Program Oversight 

  • Supervise existing literacy programs and ensure they are delivered effectively and consistently. 

  • Research and develop programs tailored to the needs and interests of the community. 

  • Establish streamlined procedures for organizing and delivering programs efficiently, enhancing accessibility for participants. 
     

Volunteer and Staff Management 

  • Support volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed, engaged, and confident in their roles. 

  • Supervise and support volunteers and part-time employees, providing guidance, feedback, and encouragement to help them succeed. 

  • Foster a collaborative team environment, promoting clear communication and coordination among staff and volunteers. 
     

Community Outreach & Engagement 
 

  • Assist in implementing outreach strategies that build awareness of the organization across local communities. 

  • Represent the organization at community events, school visits, presentations, and partnership meetings. 

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with schools, local agencies, community groups, and other partners. 

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen community presence and expand outreach connections. 

  • Assist with creating outreach materials and providing community-facing communications support. 

  • Engage families, educators, and community members by sharing information about the organization’s mission and services. 

  • Maintain ongoing communication with partners to support collaborative initiatives, referrals, and community needs. 
     

Social Media and Communication 

  • Assist with managing the Book Bank’s social media presence by creating engaging content to raise awareness and promote activities. 
     

Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain relationships. 

  • Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness. 

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. 

  • Comfort with public speaking and representing the organization in community settings. 

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or outreach activities.
