Job Summary

 Reporting to the Manager, Dental Health Programs, and accountable to the Senior Director of Clinical Programs, the dental receptionist will be responsible for providing reception and administrative support to LAMP’s Dental Health Care programs to ensure achievement of program objectives and to meet targets/deadlines in order to improve the dental health of people living in the community. This position suits an individual with a passion and commitment towards serving the community in an inclusive workplace that respects and values the diversity of every individual.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Greets and prepares clients for dental providers services in a culturally safe manner and by following anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks when engaging individuals
  • Answers incoming phone calls; make outgoing calls as needed; take messages; check messages in inbox; and responds accordingly in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of all paper, and electronic dental records and filing systems in a manner that supports program efficiency and reporting requirements, in accordance to privacy requirements.
  • Completes intake and registration/enrolment, including collecting information for screenings, and explaining program limitations, and costs to clients and their family members, with patience and respect.
  • Sets up client records, enters sociodemographic data, coordinates and ensures accurate appointment scheduling in accordance with dental clinic policies and procedures
  • Supports the referral process, confirms insurance coverage, and maintains the recall system
  • General correspondence, photocopying, filing, scanning, and faxing, incoming/outgoing mail
  • Participates in oral health promotion, presentations, outreach, advocacy, and community education
  • Some evenings, weekends, and local travel may be required

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Dental Clinic Reception and Administration including, data entry and file management
  • Additional Level II Certified Dental Assistant experience in a clinical setting preferred
  • Three years’ experience in a large dental clinic or one-year experience in a community health centre
  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and culturally competent care to vulnerable populations focusing on diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs including the Ontario Seniors Dental Care program (OSDCP) and the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), an asset
  • An understanding legislation such as the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and safe work practices
  • Must be able to maintain privacy and confidentiality, respond appropriately to sensitive situations and conduct oneself in a professional demeanor at all times
  • Demonstrate reliability, the ability to multi-task, and work under flexible conditions
  • Experience in health promotion, dental outreach, and oral health advocacy activities would be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas in order to communication effectively across all levels of the organization
