Who We Are:

New Beginnings Recovery Home is proud to be one of Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential treatment centres focused on addiction and mental health. Situated in the GTA, we offer culturally responsive, trauma-informed care tailored to the needs of historically underserved populations.

We are seeking a licensed psychiatrist to support our residential team through virtual and/or on-site assessments, with optional involvement in group therapy facilitation (compensated separately).

About the Role:

This role focuses on providing psychiatric intake assessments for individuals preparing to enter our 28-day inpatient recovery program. You’ll work closely with our interdisciplinary team to ensure each client’s clinical readiness and safety for admission.

Key Duties:

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations of new clients (virtually or in-person)
  • Review mental health history, substance use patterns, medication regimens, and potential detox concerns
  • Identify contraindications or red flags requiring alternate care pathways
  • Approve or redirect admissions based on clinical appropriateness
  • Provide oversight and approval for individualized treatment plans
  • Consult with clinical and intake teams to support decision-making
  • (Optional) Co-lead therapeutic groups on a case-by-case basis

What We’re Looking For:

  • MD with FRCPC in Psychiatry
  • Licensed and in good standing with the CPSO
  • Eligible to bill OHIP, either independently or through a group billing arrangement
  • Familiarity with K-codes and other OHIP-funded mental health billing structures
  • Prior experience in addiction medicine, family psychiatry, or community mental health is an asset
  • Comfortable using virtual platforms to deliver psychiatric services
  • Committed to an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach

Availability & Scheduling:

  • Flexible scheduling — evenings and weekends welcomed
  • Intake assessments typically last 20–40 minutes
  • Estimated 4–6 assessments per week, with room to grow

Compensation Structure:

We offer a flexible compensation model, which may include:

  • Hourly consulting rates
  • Per-assessment fees for clinical evaluations
  • Split-billing on eligible OHIP services (e.g., psychiatric counselling, admission assessments)

All terms negotiable based on scope and experience.

Billing & Collaboration Model

  • Physicians must be open to a collaborative billing agreement with New Beginnings
  • Group billing registration with OHIP required to submit claims for services provided by staff (e.g., therapists, social workers)
  • Revenue share applies to OHIP-billed services
  • Physicians gain access to:
  • Steady client referrals
  • Support staff for clinical care
  • Secure digital infrastructure for records and care plans
  • Admin support for scheduling, billing, and documentation
