York West Active Living Centre (YWALC) is a not-for-profit organization that enriches the lives of adults 55 plus. YWALC supports healthy, independent living by providing innovative health and wellness programs. What is the opportunity?
The Program Development Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating social, recreational, wellness, and educational programs for older adults at the Seniors Active Living Centre.
Program Co-ordinator Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Development
•Design, implement, and coordinate a diverse range of programs and activities that promote physical, mental, and social well-being of older adults
•Work with instructors to develop a well-rounded program schedule
•Conduct assessments and gather feedback from participants to identify interests, gaps, and emerging trends
•Develop program schedules
•Ensure programs are inclusive, accessible, and culturally sensitive
•Program set-up for daily activities
Administration
•Maintain accurate records of program attendance, budgets, and outcomes.
•Hands on program support to all members
•Assist with membership and program registration
•Handle cash transactions.
Volunteers
●Fill, monitor, review and evaluate volunteer roles
●Prepare and conduct general orientation and training sessions for volunteers as needed
●Review, revise and maintain volunteer job descriptions to reflect current needs
●Co-ordinate with staff regarding YWALC volunteer opportunities
Community Engagement & Partnerships
•Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, and service providers to enhance program offerings.
•Represent the Centre at community events and outreach activities to increase awareness and participation.
Marketing & Communications
•Develop promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content to advertise programs and events.
•Develop a comprehensive list of outreach locations and opportunities
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
● Recreation Management in Gerontology, Community Worker or Recreation and Leisure Services Diploma an asset
●Fully proficient in speaking, reading and writing English
●Excellent working ability with Microsoft Office Applications
●Strong administration, research, communication and interpersonal skills
●Willing to work occasional evenings or weekends
●Ability to plan, organize, delegate and supervise programs
●Self-motivated, self-managing and high achieving
●Skilled at motivating, empowering others and team building
●Bondable, team player, able to multi-task
●Legally eligible to work in Canada
●Criminal Reference Check, will accept one completed within the last 12 months
Nice-to-have:
●Food handlers’ certificate
●First aid, CPR and AED Training
●Second language, Spanish/Italian
●Relevant experience working in a Senior Active Living Centre (SALC)
●Clean, Ontario driver’s license
Working conditions/requirements:
●Able to function in an environment that provides constant interruption and change
●Enjoy a constantly changing environment
●This position requires daily lifting, carrying, stretching, walking and standing as an essential job function
