Hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Health Services, the Medical Office Assistant will play a critical role in the effective functioning of the Hope Health Clinic and Shelter. The MOA will work closely with the Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Medical Doctors, to ensure operations run smoothly, staff have the supplies needed to care for community members, and appointments are made for community members to get the care they need from our partnering providers.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Booking appointments for clients to see our providers
  • Facilitating referrals from practitioners
  • Collecting/reporting clinic stats
  • Maintaining accurate demographic records of clients
  • Requesting/Ordering supplies for practitioners
  • Performing general intake, vital signs, and welcoming clients to the clinic
  • Documenting client care provided
  • Managing and organizing incoming and outgoing faxes and paperwork
  • Answering and directing phone calls
  • Assisting practitioners with general procedure set up and client support

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of an accredited MOA course or equivalent
  • Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check and child welfare check is required
  • First Aid certification is required, BLS is preferred
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset, but is provided if needed
  • Exceptional computer skills including with Electronic Medical Records and Microsoft Office
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations is an asset
  • Two years of work experience in healthcare or shelter services is an asset
  • High level of care and compassion for culturally marginalized and underprivileged people
