Job Title: Program Supervisor

Reports to: Program Manager

Hours of work: 40h/week, Tuesday to Saturday

Position duration: Year-round

Job Summary: 

Leading a small team of staff and volunteers to offer support programs to local children, youth and families. Program leading requires continuing current programs we offer, and also creative and informed development of additional programs to grow relationships and supports for families. The role will require the ability to create and maintain a healthy work environment for staff and develop and coordinate volunteers. Our programing uses Bible-based teaching in creative and age-appropriate ways; therefore, part of the supervisor role will be to develop and communicate these tools to aid children, youth and families in healthy living and personal growth.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Develop sincere relationships with the children, youth, families, staff and volunteers within the programs.
  • Communicate (through word and action) Bible-based life values to the participants of our programs.
  • Work at all special events as they arise, including Open House events, summer day camps, fundraising, etc.
  • Primarily work with an additional outreach staff to offer programs in Camrose.
  • Coordinate the games, devotional times, and support the staff as needed.
  • Recruit, develop and coordinate volunteers for programming.
  • Communicate and coordinate with various support departments within Hope Mission.
  • Develop new and nurture the current community partnerships with schools and other community agencies.
  • In the summer months, transition to primarily support summer camp programming at Bethany Homes.

Programming:

  • Be the primary person for program planning, with games, skits, music and other activities.
  • Prepare to lead games and other activities within programs.
  • Actively participate in various activities with the kids and youth.
  • Interact with the children, families, volunteers and staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Build safe and caring relationships with at risk children and youth
  • Provide appropriate support for various physical, mental and emotional obstacles that program participants are affected by (FASD, autism, trauma, abuse, self-harm, suicide, poverty, additions, etc.)
  • Become knowledgeable about the emergency and support needs for children, youth and families in the Camrose area and develop programs to serve those needs.

Administrative: 

  • Be effective in use of emails, online file sharing, video calls, document making, and other digital tools.
  • Work closely, using digital resources (video calls, use of cloud-based file sharing, etc.) with the Hope Mission Prevention Admin Team for resources and communication with families.
  • Comfortable with all forms of communication with staff, other departments, and other organizations and agencies.
  • Effective in scheduling monthly and yearly program rhythms.
  • Properly document, communicate and store program incident reports, injury reports and abuse disclosure reports

Security:

  • Converse with children to manage behavior concerns, following the Child Protection Policy.
  • Appropriately respond to safety concerns as they occur (ie. anything that is broken or open, injuries, etc.).
  • Use first aid training to give appropriate level of care to program participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Use safe and effective program participant sign-in and out procedures.
  • Adhere to and supervise all staff and volunteers to be following the Child Protection Policy in all program and handling of program participant information.

Other:

  • Keep areas free of all potential hazards.
  • Attend, and at times facilitate, staff meetings, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and staff functions.
  • Safety and legally operate Hope Mission vehicles requiring a class 5 license.
  • Be aware of and abide by Hope Mission program policy and procedures in the Hope Mission Employee Handbook and Child Protection Policy

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Class 5 drivers' license
  • Experience working with children and youth experience is an asset
  • Experience or training in Christian Ministry Leadership is an asset.
  • Motivational Interview Training, Trauma-Informed Care, Suicide Awareness training, etc. are assets
  • Intermediate (CPR-C) first aid is an asset

Other Requirements:

  • Being a Christian Organization, we require our employees to be in agreement with and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
  • Cover letter stating why you would like to work in a Christian organization.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
