SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The coordinator is responsible for providing direction, support, and day-to-day supervision to Family Team Counsellors and the Parent Programs Team Leader. The coordinator ensures that planning, coordination, documentation, reporting, program development, and evaluation for assigned programs are done in a timely and appropriate manner. This position also provides direct counselling support to youth and families.
JOB DUTIES
- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Family Counselling program and works with the Team Leader to oversee Coordination of Parent programs.
- Assists the Director of Counselling Services with:
- the development and implementation of all program plans and goals/objectives
- the development of program annual budgets and the monitoring and tracking of expenses
- recruitment, training, and orientation of new program staff
- Provides direct counselling support to youth and families.
- Ensures that services are effectively and efficiently delivered in accordance with BGC’s mission, the program’s mandate, and all BGC policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all contract deliverables are met or exceeded.
- Provides day-to-day oversight, clinical supervision, and evaluation of staff, and assists in resolving discipline issues with the support of the Director.
- Provides strong team leadership through role modeling, support, and communication, to build effective working relationships.
- Ensures that best practices with respect to clients’ rights, confidentiality, and quality assurance are maintained by staff at all times.
- Ensures that all program and client records are accurate, maintained, and completed within in conformance of BGC standards.
- Represents BGC in the community and ensures that a good working relationship is maintained with all community and other external stakeholders.
- Works with the Director to ensure that all reports to funders are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- MA in relevant social science program. This position must also meet all qualifications of a Youth and Family Counsellor position.
- A minimum of two years of direct program delivery experience in the sector.
- Experience leading and supervising a team of counselling professionals (preferably in a youth and family services setting).
- Knowledge of adolescent development, as well as family dynamics.
- Experience in working with youth and families who are experiencing mental health issues or are involved with the justice system or MCFD.
- Knowledge of intervention strategies related to youth and family counselling, substance abuse, suicide prevention, abuse and neglect of children and youth, etc.
- Experience of relevant counselling techniques and therapies used with youth and parents, including, group work.
- Experience in assessment and documentation.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set goals and prioritize.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated team building abilities.
- Personal maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues.
- A team player who is flexible and self-motivated.
- Sensitivity towards cultural, religious, and gender-based diversity issues.
- A clear driver’s abstract and use of a reliable vehicle insured for business use ($2 million liability).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
This is a full time (37.5 hrs./week) term position (February 2026 to February 2027) with possibility of extension. Position starts at $69,303 per annum, with three weeks paid vacation leave in first year, paid sick and personal leave, paid birthday off and up to 5 days statutory holiday substitution days per year to celebrate/recognize religious, cultural, and/or personal days that are important to the employee where those days are not currently recognized as statutory holidays in BC/Canada).
