FUND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - PART-TIME

The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (Compassionate Neighbours) is a registered charitable society, governed by the BC Societies Act and its own Constitution and Bylaws. Compassionate Neighbours was incorporated as a non-profit organization on June 21, 2017, and received charitable status in 2019. The services and programs that we offer promote the social and emotional wellbeing of our Chilliwack older adults and the caregivers of older adults.

JOB TITLE: Fund Development Officer (Part Time)

 This is a part-time contracted position of 20 hours/week of flexible time with a salary range of $25.00 to $35.00/hour, commensurate with education and relevant experience. This position permits working from home. A personal vehicle is required. This position takes place in Chilliwack, BC.  

This position is contracted for one year, with the possibility of renewal or promotion to a salaried role with increased hours, depending on the success of fundraising efforts.

Job in brief:

 The Fund Development Officer is responsible for devising and executing comprehensive fund development strategies to enable Compassionate Neighbours to meet its revenue goals of $108,000.00 for this fiscal year. Key responsibilities include securing sustainable funding sources, cultivating sponsorship opportunities, managing donor relationships and developing and maintaining social media accounts. Additionally, the role encompasses sustaining current partnerships while proactively establishing new collaborations.  

 The Fund Development Officer responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, stakeholders, and community partners to promote organizational goals.
  • Deliver public presentations and organize community education programs to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Network actively with the Chamber of Commerce and other relevant organizations to foster strategic partnerships.
  • Plan, organize, and execute fundraising events four times a year to support organizational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the External Affairs team on all external communication and outreach initiatives.
  • Monitor media coverage and public perceptions, ensuring a positive image for the organization.
  • Prepare press releases, media statements, and other communication materials as needed.
  • Represent the organization at public events, conferences, and meetings
  • Apply for grants under the direction of the Executive Director
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ultimately, the Fund Development Officer is responsible for enhancing the organization’s visibility and securing financial support through strategic communication and relationship-building. This role crafts compelling stories and campaigns that promote the mission, manages media relations and community outreach, and cultivates meaningful connections with donors, sponsors, and partners. The officer leads fundraising initiatives—including donor campaigns, events and tracks progress toward development goals. By aligning public engagement with fund development, this position plays a vital role in sustaining and growing the organization’s impact.

Qualifications:

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication, including the ability to prepare persuasive fundraising proposals.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills, enabling effective coordination of multiple projects and deliverables.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking capabilities, accompanied by initiative and accountability.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for engaging stakeholders and cultivating productive professional relationships.
  • Proven capacity to work independently within a remote environment.

Qualifications

Education & Knowledge

  • University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, donor management databases, fundraising platforms (such as CanadaHelps, GiveWise), content management systems, web conferencing software (including Zoom and Google Meets), and social media platforms.

Experience

  • Previous successful professional fundraising experience, (or willingness to use personal time for educational preparation), including:

    • Identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donor relationships.
    • Developing and implementing fund development strategies.
    • Preparing fundraising proposals, grant applications, donor communications, and related correspondence.
    • Managing donor databases and maintaining accurate fundraising records.
    • Establishing and sustaining strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
    • Consistently achieving revenue development objectives. 
  • Prior experience working within a non-profit organization would be an asset.

Working Relationships:

The Fund Development Officer will work closely with:

  • The Acting Executive Director.
  • The External Affairs Committee, and with any ad hoc committee that is formed.
  • Administration Staff.

  • Develops an annual fundraising plan including campaigns, events, and new donor outreach.
  • Helps identify and secure new donors.
  • Works with the Board to monitor the Society's capital needs such as space and equipment.

Prepares accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends.
