The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (Compassionate Neighbours) is a registered charitable society, governed by the BC Societies Act and its own Constitution and Bylaws.  Compassionate Neighbours was incorporated as a non-profit organization on June 21, 2017, and received charitable status in 2019. The services and programs that we offer promote the social and emotional wellbeing of our Chilliwack older adults and the caregivers of older adults.

Compassionate Neighbours wish to hire a Program Coordinator for 35 hours/week to assume the responsibility of acting as the Society’s Seniors and Elders Social Programs Coordinator.

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Coordinator of Seniors and Elders Social Programs, to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, leading, and overseeing various programs and initiatives that align with our organization's mission and goals. This role requires a high level of organization, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people. The Coordinator will work closely with other staff members, volunteers, and community partners to ensure the successful execution of programs.

Key responsibilities include: coordinating and carrying out program plans, managing budgets, leading and coordinating events, maintaining statistics, and evaluating program outcomes. The successful candidate will have a strong background in program management, a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful programs and initiatives that drive social change and improve the lives of those we serve.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Under Executive Director (ED) guidance, the Program Coordinator will:

  1. Coordinate, lead, and manage program activities and events and ensure programs align with the organizational mission, vision and core values.
  2. Promote programs through marketing and communication efforts and conduct outreach and engagement activities. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and key stakeholders.
  3. Maintain accurate records and data management systems.  Respond to inquiries and provide information about programs.
  4. Process all new referrals for seniors’ and elders’ groups and individual programs according to program interests.
  5. Match new volunteers for one-on-one weekly contact and the monthly enhanced social meal connections and maintain bi-monthly follow-up with both the volunteer and the senior participant. Initial in-person introductions may be necessary.
  6. Monitor and evaluate program performance, budgets, and outcomes. Ensure compliance with funding requirements and regulations.  Identify and address program challenges and opportunities.  Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners. In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, ensure adequate volunteer coverage for each program activity or event.
  7. Prepare reports and documentation as indicated by the Executive Director (ED) and as required by grant funders.
  8. Provide support and training to program volunteers, in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, and co-facilitate monthly volunteer meetings.
  9. Facilitate meetings and develop and lead community educational workshops.
  10. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications: 

  • Strong and dynamic leadership style and management background. Leads with enthusiasm.
  • Experience in a non-profit environment, is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to a participatory leadership style.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills, both oral and written.
  • Has a collaborative style of communication and is skilled in interacting with diverse people and groups.
  • Proficiency in database management and Microsoft products.
  • Must have a Class 5 or Class 7 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.

Working Hours and Location: This is a full-time Coordinator position of 35 hours/week, that is flexible and partially permits working from home but will require attending all programs in-person. Some programs are run outside of usual business hours. The programs take place in the Chilliwack area.  

Salary: This is a full-time position of 35 hours/week at $25/hour and does not permit paid overtime hours.

  • The position includes signing a yearly employment contract.
  • The employee shall serve a probationary period of 3 months from the commencement of their employment.
