Pacifica Treatment Centre (Pacifica), founded in 1977, is an innovative charitable sector society that provides gender-inclusive in-residence treatment and community-based supportive recovery-focused services for individuals experiencing challenges associated with problematic substance use, in conjunction with concurrent mental health concerns and trauma.

Nature and Scope of Work
We are seeking an experienced food industry professional to provide training, mentorship, and ongoing support to our kitchen team in a unionized environment. This role is focused on strengthening team communication, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution practices, and the consistent application of kitchen processes and practices, while respecting the realities and pace of a working kitchen.
The successful candidate will work closely with a small kitchen team consisting of:
One Kitchen Lead/Supervisor
One Full-Time Cook
One Part-Time Cook
Several Casual Staff
This is a hands-on, supportive role designed to build skills, confidence, and healthy working relationships through practical, kitchen-appropriate training methods, while reinforcing efficient and sustainable kitchen operations.
Compensation
As this is a contract role, applicants are invited to include their proposed hourly rate with their application. Please include your proposed hourly rate in your application; rates will be reviewed in alignment with scope, experience, and organizational context.
Key Responsibilities
Provide formal and regular training to kitchen staff focused on:
Effective communication
Problem solving in high-pressure environments
Conflict resolution and respectful workplace practices
Support and reinforce kitchen logistics and operational processes, including:
Workflow consistency and role clarity
Adherence to established procedures and standards
Day-to-day coordination and handoff practices
Deliver training using flexible methodologies, which may include:
Short workshops or facilitated discussions
On-the-job coaching and mentoring
Team check-ins or scenario-based learning
Work alongside the Kitchen Lead/Supervisor to:
Reinforce existing systems and processes
Identify gaps or friction points in daily operations
Support consistent implementation of agreed-upon practices
Adapt training and support approaches to reflect what realistically works in an active kitchen setting
Foster a collaborative, respectful, and union-aware workplace culture
Additional duties as decided in collaboration and consultation with successful applicants
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Experience working in a professional kitchen or food service environment
Strong understanding of kitchen operations, logistics, and workplace dynamics
Practical experience with conflict resolution, coaching, or team mentorship
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff at different experience levels
Nice to Have:
Experience working in or alongside unionized environments
Familiarity with adult learning or workplace training principles
Experience supporting teams through operational or process improvements

Comfortable navigating interpersonal and operational challenges

Time Commitment
Approximately 4–6 hours per week
Scheduling to be coordinated in collaboration with kitchen leadership
