Title: SMART Recovery Facilitator – Client Programming (Casual) 

Classification: BCGEU Community Subsector Grid 31, Casual 

Hourly Rate: $30.20 - $31.89  

Work Schedule: 1.5 - 3 hours per week, 6:45-8:15pm, Wednesday Evenings (Coverage) & Friday Evenings. For Friday Evenings scheduling can be adjusted for the successful applicant.

Pacifica Treatment Centre (Pacifica), founded in 1977, is an innovative charitable sector society that provides gender-inclusive in-residence treatment and community-based supportive recovery-focused services for individuals experiencing challenges associated with problematic substance use, in conjunction with concurrent mental health concerns and trauma. 

Pacifica provides a comprehensive range of services designed to support personalized recovery goals, enhancing the quality of life and well-being for individuals. Our offerings include: 

  • Pre-engagement services and system navigation 

  • Orientation programs 

  • Primary treatment with a 27-bed in-residence facility 

  • A stabilization program featuring 8 in-residence beds 

  • Programs focusing on resiliency and trauma 

  • Integrative wellness initiatives 

  • Continuing care support 

  • Alumni services 

At the core of our approach is an interdisciplinary team that employs a trauma-informed therapeutic community model. This approach empowers individuals to take charge of their recovery journey, fostering self-discovery, self-empowerment, and self-actualization. We achieve this through a combination of therapeutic counseling, educational initiatives, and supportive services, all aimed at strengthening not just the individuals but also their families and communities. 

Our Philosophy

Key Responsibilities: 

Adjust and deliver group sessions on psychological and recovery-related themes including (but not limited to): 

  • Facilitate 2SLGBTQIA+ SMART Recovery and SMART Recovery groups aligned with SMART curriculum, principles, and tools (e.g., ABC model, cost-benefit analysis, urges management, goal setting). 

  • Adjust delivery to meet diverse learning and recovery needs while staying true to SMART methodologies. 

  • Promote active participation and encourage development of self-management skills. 

  • Maintain a supportive, inclusive, and non-judgmental group environment rooted in trauma-informed practice. 

Foster a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space for all clients, incorporating client-centred 
and culturally responsive approaches. 

Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to provide optimal, client-centered care, while adhering to the organization’s standards and protocols. 

Respond appropriately to emotional or behavioral escalations in a group setting, following trauma-informed de-escalation practices. 

Provide feedback and recommendations to the interdisciplinary team regarding client progress and group dynamics. 

Document all resident interactions, rule violations, therapeutic interventions, and any notable incidents in electronic logs and resident files. 

Carrying out additional administrative tasks as needed to support the team and overall program operations. 

Qualifications: 

  • This role will cover for our 2SLGBTQIA+ SMART Recovery Facilitator; we will be prioritizing folks only who self-identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. 

  • Certification as a SMART Recovery Facilitator (required or obtained within agreed-upon timeframe). 

  • Experience with or participation in SMART Recovery programming and/or lived experience are considered assets. 

  • Degree or diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or related field; equivalent experience considered. 

  • Minimum 1-3 years experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups, preferably in addiction, mental health, or trauma recovery settings. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of substance use disorders, trauma, and recovery processes. 

  • Training or certification in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, or related frameworks is an asset. 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing individuals’ quality of life and well-being through a strengths-based approach. 

  • Proficiency in conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and non-violent communication methods. 

  • Commitment to Pacifica’s philosophy of equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

  • Certificates in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain training. 

  • Ability to maintain boundaries, practice self-care, and work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
