Job Title: Mental Health Occupational Therapist 

Based at: Edwardson Place (10336 114 st  NW) , Green Manor (10635 107 st NW)

Reports to: Clinical Manager, Recovery Program

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM, on-call.

Job Summary: To provide holistic, client‑centered occupational therapy services that support individuals in recovery from addiction and mental health challenges (including anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia) by enhancing daily functioning, strengthening adaptive skills, and promoting engagement in meaningful activities. The role focuses on restoring healthy routines, improving physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing, and building coping strategies that foster long‑term recovery and community participation.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to identify functional barriers related to addiction, mental health and daily living.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that foster meaningful engagement, strengthen psychosocial stability to attend recovery program.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions focused on coping strategies, stress management, life-skills development and healthy routine building.  
  • Facilitate group and individual sessions targeting emotional regulation, social skills, hygiene, and adaptive functioning.
  • Provide cognitive rehabilitation interventions to support attention, memory, organization and executive functioning.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and integrated client care.
  • Create and maintain a trauma-informed environment that enhances client’s sense of safety and supports their engagement in the recovery program.
  • Support clients in community reintegration, including participation in vocational, educational, recreational, and social activities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation, treatment notes, progress reports, and assessments in accordance with agency standards. 
  • Engage in case consultations, team meetings, and program planning to strengthen recovery‑oriented services.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program 
  • Active registration and good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)  
  • Knowledge of recovery‑oriented practice, client‑centered care, and culturally and spiritually safe approaches.
  • Strong ability to design and adapt therapeutic activities based on client interests, functional needs, and recovery goals.
  • Training and experience in providing specialized trauma therapies such as DBT, CBT is an asset
  • Training in suicide risk assessment and depression/ anxiety assessments
  • Training or experience in exposure- based interventions to support clients with trauma in adapting to the recovery environment.
  • Criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check and child welfare check is required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset, but is provided if needed
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to remain flexible, open to change, and responsive to shifting clinical and program needs.
  • Experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
