Program and Role Description: The Career Foundation’s Youth Thrive program operates both regionally and nationally, offering youth a variety of activities such as professional skills workshops, a virtual retreat, and volunteer placements. These opportunities help youth participants gain valuable skills and experiences, engage in important community projects, and promote civic engagement and social inclusion. Our national Youth Thrive program is available to youth aged 16 to 30 living in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, or Nova Scotia, while our regional Youth Thrive program serves eligible youth living in Ontario. Both programs particularly focus on youth who identify as Indigenous or are underserved from equity-deserving groups.

In the position of Financial Support Specialist, you would be an important member of The Career Foundation’s Finance department, supporting our Youth Thrive program. Your responsibilities would include handling financial duties associated with the program’s budget, including processing and reconciling payments to support various claims and expenditures. You would also be responsible for meeting individual deadlines and achieving the KPIs associated with your assigned duties.

Position Type: 
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) one-year contract with excellent potential to lead to permanent.

Starting Salary:
The starting annual salary for this position is $57,000.00 (or $58k if the successful candidate holds a master’s degree, full bilingualism in French, or full proficiency in Sign Language).

Base Location:
This position is based at our North York office, located at Lawrence Ave. W. and Allen Road. The successful candidate must be willing to work on-site from our North York location on a full-time basis. The position also currently operates under a hybrid schedule that permits one work-from-home day per week. The hybrid schedule is based on performance and operational needs and requires a private work-from-home space with reliable, high-speed internet. A company laptop and other equipment are provided.

Responsibilities include:

• Works in the Finance department to process and reconcile payments to support various claims and expenditures for the Youth Thrive program.
• Reviews and validates all expenses claimed through invoices ensuring proper accountability based on established guidelines and standards.
• Communicates effectively with fellow team members to investigate and resolve any missing data or signatures on documentation, ensuring all records are complete and comply with quality standards and requirements.
• Reconciles claims by recording amounts in established trackers, verifies the accuracy of client support forms, and reconciles payouts from SAGE documents after approval from management.
• Updates internal databases and trackers to reconcile payment schedules.
• Completes related paperwork required by the Finance department to process payments for various stakeholders of the Youth Thrive program.
• Assists with routine financial audits, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data in reports, databases, and files.
• Completes other finance-related administrative functions for the program as needed.
• Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

• Diploma or degree in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• A minimum of six months’ experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting assistant roles, including account reconciliation, and tracking and monitoring of expenses, is required.
• Experience using SAGE accounting software is considered an asset for this position.
• Excellent technical and computer skills, with a strong understanding of accounting processes.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel spreadsheets.
• Must be willing to work on-site from The Career Foundation’s North York office on a full-time basis.
• Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, GST, and HST legislation is considered an asset.
• Outstanding detail orientation, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a proven ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
• Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values in all interactions with fellow staff members, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate information verbally and in writing.
• Experience using online communication platforms and tools, including MS Teams, SharePoint and other Office 365 applications.
• Must possess the aptitude and willingness to learn and work with new online systems and technologies.
• Punctual, self-motivated, and self-directed.
• Proven ability to maintain sensitive information, exhibit tact, diplomacy, and good judgment, with high standards of professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
• A flexible team player with a positive approach to work and willingness to occasionally work outside of normal business hours, when needed, to achieve objectives and meet tight deadlines.
