The Volunteer and Communications Manager (V&CM) is a key member of the Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre (FSNC) leadership team, responsible for volunteer programs, marketing and communications. This role manages the full life cycle of volunteers, serves as the administrator of the volunteer management software (Better Impact) and ensures volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, supported and recognized to meet operational needs. Additionally, this role leads our public facing communications, social media, newsletters, marketing materials and website content. This position requires mature judgement, strong computer, digital and organizational skills.

The Society is seeking an individual who is committed to the Fort Saskatchewan community and is passionate about addressing food insecurity. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a mindset of proactive strategic thinking, a focus on positive interpersonal relationships, the ability to multi-task, problem solve, and delegate effectively for optimal day-to-day operation of the Society.

 

Experience, Education & Qualifications

•         Minimum of two (2) years managing volunteer programs

•         Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in volunteer program administration, human resources management or related field.

•         Previous experience with ‘Better Impact’ or similar volunteer management software, is an asset.

•         Candidates must have:

v    A clean Criminal & Vulnerable Sector Record Check

v    Access to a reliable vehicle

•         Ideal candidates will have:

v    Experience working in a food-related environment

v    Current Standard First Aid & CPR

v    Alberta Health Services Approved Safe Food Handling Certification

•       Experience administering and working within volunteer management or scheduling systems (Better Impact or similar) with the ability to manage data, reporting and system processes

•       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•       Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to changing operational needs

•       Sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive situations and confidential information

•       Strong computer and digital skills, including Canva, Microsoft 365, all social media platforms

•       Strong interpersonal skills

•       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

•       Adherence to the Food Banks Canada Ethical Food Banking Code

•       Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to support volunteer needs, events and campaigns

 

Additional Requirements

•       Must hold a valid Alberta driver (Operators) license – Class 5

•       Must hold current Standard First Aid, CPR + AED (will be required)

•       Trauma informed practice knowledge

•       Must hold and maintain a clean Criminal & Vulnerable Sector Record Check

•       Minimal local travel required

•       Flexible work schedule is needed, including some required evenings and weekends
