Position Profile
The Donor Engagement Officer plays a strategic role within Wildlife Rescue’s Advancement team, focusing on connection and relationship development to cultivate donor growth. This position spearheads initiatives that enhance the donor experience and foster long-term organizational support.

Who YOU are
You are a relationship-driven fundraising professional with at least 5 years of nonprofit experience and a proven record of deepening donor engagement and increasing lifetime giving. You excel at building authentic partnerships with high-value donors and foundations, managing strategic relationships, and leveraging CRM tools such as Salesforce to inform and strengthen stewardship efforts.

Established in 1979, the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and is committed to educating the public about peaceful coexistence with wildlife. Based in Burnaby, BC, we are Western Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre, admitting over 5,000 animal patients each year.

Our ADVANCEMENT team
The Advancement Team is a multidisciplinary group comprising Marketing, Communications, and Fundraising programs. Together, we work closely with other departments, staff, and volunteers to deliver the highest level of donor and public engagement. Highlight of Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and implementation of a donor stewardship program that builds trust and long-term philanthropic commitment.
• Develop and manage a structured, values-aligned strategy that guides prospects and donors through cultivation, stewardship, and retention planning.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners, including individual donors, foundation partners, and community collaborators.
• Plan targeted initiatives to build relationships, increase donor retention, deepen engagement, and grow lifetime and legacy giving.
• Champion a culture of donor stewardship throughout the organization, ensuring alignment and integration of stewardship principles across all donor-facing activities.
• Provide leadership in identifying and developing innovative fundraising initiatives that advance the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Key Qualifications & Experience
• 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience in a nonprofit environment.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute donor-stewardship plans that deepen engagement and increase lifetime value.
• Proven success building authentic, long-term relationships with high-value donors, driving increased retention, engagement, and philanthropic investment.
• Experience cultivating and strengthening relationships with foundations to expand donor engagement.
• Working knowledge of Donor Advised Fund (DAF) programs and strategies for engaging foundations to grow sustained giving.
• Knowledgeable understanding of guiding donors through gift planning opportunities, from first donation to recurring gifts, major annual gifts, and planned legacy gifts.
