Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join our Service Hub team. Are you ready to be our Community Engagement Coordinator (Liaison) and make an impact in our community?

Community Engagement Coordinator (Liaison) – Bissell Centre

The Community Engagement Coordinator (Liaison) serves as the primary connection between the Bissell Centre Service Hub and the communities it serves, with a strong focus on relationship-building, partnership development, and service coordination. This role is responsible for advancing relationships with community members, First Nations, and external stakeholders while also acting as an internal and external point person for coordinating services at the Service Hub. The coordinator will lead volunteer onboarding and training, develop life-skills programming, and create pathways out of poverty through targeted community initiatives through the Service Hub.

Duties and Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Relationship Building:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community members, organizations, Nations, businesses, and government agencies, as related to Service Hub operations.
  • Act as a representative of the organization at community meetings, events, and forums.
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies to connect with diverse and underrepresented communities.

Partnership Development:

  • Advance relationships and create partnerships with Nations, nonprofits, businesses, and government entities to support community initiatives, as related to Service Hub operations.
  • Facilitate collaboration between internal teams and external partners to ensure effective service delivery at the Service Hub.
  • Act as a key liaison for coordinating resources, services, and Service Hub initiatives between stakeholders.

Service Coordination & Program Development:

  • Serve as the primary internal and external point person for coordinating community services and support programs at the Service Hub.
  • Develop and implement group programming focused on life skills, financial literacy, workforce development, and pathways out of poverty.
  • Gather community feedback to enhance program offerings and accessibility.

Volunteer & Community Member Engagement:

  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and training of volunteers and potential community members at the Service Hub.
  • Develop strategies to integrate volunteers into Service Hub programs and community initiatives effectively.
  • Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for volunteers.

Event Planning & Community Initiatives:

  • Plan, coordinate, and attend community events, workshops, and informational sessions.
  • Develop outreach campaigns to increase public participation in Service Hub programs.
  • Manage event logistics, including venue coordination, speaker arrangements, and promotional efforts.

Communication & Advocacy:

  • Serve as a bridge between the Service Hub and community stakeholders to communicate needs, concerns, and opportunities.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and marketing materials to share engagement efforts and successes.
  • Advocate for community needs and work collaboratively to address challenges.

Data Collection & Reporting:

  • Track engagement activities, measure impact, and provide reports on community outreach effectiveness.
  • Conduct surveys, collect feedback, and analyze data to improve engagement efforts.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in social work, social sciences or human services or related field.
  • Candidates holding a social work diploma or degree are required to be registered and in good standing with the ACSW.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum 2 yr relevant employment experience in social services/human services
  • Experience and comfortable working with marginalized clientele who have substance use disorders and mental health concerns.
  • Experience performing administrative duties and computer data input.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build trust and foster relationships with diverse communities and Nations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relations and interagency relations.
  • Resourceful, able to work independently and pro-active in resolving issues.
  • Able to follow directions and learn quickly; adaptable to change.
  • Experience in partnership development and service coordination.
  • Event planning and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources, poverty alleviation strategies, and workforce development.

Conditions of Work

  • May require evening and weekend work for community events
  • Working environment is generally in an administrative building in fast-paced conditions.
  • Occasional travel within the city and surrounding areas

•        Plan: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.

•        Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
