Full-Time, Term Position (until Dec 31, 2026 with possibility of renewal)

We also partner with more than 25 organizations to help improve health, reduce social isolation and strengthen connections in this community.

The Opportunity:
We are looking for an Interim Parenting Journey Home Visitor to join our team on a temporary basis to cover a period of staff leave.
The Parenting Journey Home Visitor partners with parents and caregivers of children (up to age 18) who are seeking additional support in their parenting journey. Through home visits and community-based meetings, this role walks alongside families as an independent, trusted support person, consistently showing up to help them identify strengths, navigate challenges, and connect with resources.
This is a relationship-focused role that requires empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while remaining connected to a collaborative team. The Parenting Journey Home Visitor builds trusting relationships while maintaining thoughtful, professional boundaries that foster safety, mutual respect, and sustainable support for families.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings (once or twice per quarter) and weekends (once or twice per year) as required.
Length of Term: We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible. This term position will run to December 31st, 2026, with possibility of renewal.
Reporting structure: The Interim Parenting Journey Home Visitor will report to the Home Visiting Coordinator.
The Interim Parenting Journey Home Visitor will:
Meet parents and caregivers in their home, at The North Grove, or an agreed upon alternate location like a playground or coffee shop
Support families experiencing complex social, emotional, and family challenges
Work collaboratively with families to identify parenting goals, strengths, resources, and priorities.
Use strengths-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches in all interactions
With support, connect families with resources and help them navigate systems such as Child & Family Wellbeing, legal or court processes
Maintain accurate notes and program documentation and participate in evaluation
Work independently in the community while maintaining strong communication with the team
Support other areas of program delivery at The North Grove as required
Eligibility: To be eligible for this position, you must have:
• A valid Nova Scotia Drivers’ License and ownership of a reliable, insured vehicle (minimum $2 million insurance)
• A satisfactory criminal record, vulnerable sector and child abuse registry check, to be completed at time of offer

At least one year of experience working with children and families, especially those who face systemic barriers
Post-secondary diploma or degree in a Social Service-related major or equivalent experience
Demonstrated sensitivity, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude
Ability to establish and maintain personal/program boundaries, while providing supportive services
Strong relationship-building, interpersonal, and active listening skills
Knowledge of community resources and the ability to help families navigate systems and connect with appropriate supports
Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from all backgrounds and identities
High degree of reliability and consistency, with the ability to maintain regular, dependable contact with families
Sound professional judgment with the ability to mediate and manage conflict, support problem solving, and remain calm in challenging situations
High level of initiative and self-direction, with the ability to work alone in the community while maintaining strong connections with the team
Familiarity with the diverse neighbourhoods within the broader Dartmouth community, living and/or working in, is considered an asset
What We Offer:
The North Grove is a caring and high-energy work environment. Staff wellbeing is prioritized, and we provide training opportunities, employer-paid medical/dental benefits from day one, 4% employer-paid RRSP contribution after probation, 4 weeks of paid vacation, all statutory holidays, paid sick time and 4 personal days. A computer is provided as well as a telephone stipend.
Salary hiring range: $46,350 – 51,500 annually*
*Compensation will be determined based on candidate skills, experience, and internal equity
The Selection Process:
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short initial phone screening call to go over the basics of the position, get a high-level understanding of your experience, and answer any questions you may have.
Following the phone screening calls, a handful of candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at The North Grove, followed by a second interview if required. Candidates are encouraged to submit any accommodation requests to the email below.
