About Us 

The Canadian Media Producers Association is Canada’s trade association for independent producers. We represent hundreds of companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language content for TV, feature film and digital media channels. The CMPA works on behalf of our producer members to ensure a bright future for domestic media production and Canadian content.

The CMPA is currently seeking an experienced Finance Manager for our Ottawa office. This integral role is crucial for efficiently managing our day-to-day accounting and administrative functions. The Finance Manager thrives on learning new things and taking on new responsibilities. They work collaboratively, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and ensure that the CMPA financial policies and procedures are consistently met. 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll and monthly statutory remittances.
  • Lead payroll year-end procedures and annual statutory filings.
  • Prepare and review journal entries.
  • Lead month-end and year-end procedures to ensure timely and accurate completion and reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support the preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting, including operating results, financial position, and budget to actual variances.
  • Coordinate the organization’s year-end audit process, including preparing and reviewing working papers, schedules and supporting documentation, and liaising with external auditors.
  • Oversee the weekly payment process to ensure accurate and timely completion.
  • Maintain and administer investment schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial projections.
  • Work with the Business Analyst to enhance revenue tracking and CRM database management.  
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance team, identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance internal controls and improve financial reporting.
  • Provide backup support for other Finance team members in managing weekly and monthly financial functions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and guidance to promote cross-training within the Finance team.
  • Supervise the Accounting Coordinator as directed.
  • Liaise with other staff and offices and assist in CMPA-wide initiatives.
  • Other duties as required by the Vice-President, Finance & Facilities. 

Education & Experience

  • Holds a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation completed or near completion. 
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in non-profit organizations is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and compliance.
  • Experience in financial system implementation.
  • Proficiency in the use of QuickBooks, ADP payroll, CRM and Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Proficient in online banking products and services, including online bill-paying tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM would be a definite asset.

POSITION/LOCATION: Full-time position based in Ottawa, ON. Currently hybrid work schedule.
