functions at key points in the year.

About the Caring and Sharing Exchange (C&SE):

The Caring and Sharing Exchange (C&SE) is an Ottawa-based charity dedicated to assisting
individuals and families in need through our Christmas Exchange and Sharing in Student
Success programs. Founded in 1915, our mission is to provide our neighbours in need with
relief and dignity during difficult times of the year.

The backbone of our organization is the Coordination Service, which eliminates any duplication
of service amongst almost 200 local agency partners to ensure equitable distribution of donor
dollars in the community. This unique service ensures that community resources are shared as
fairly and efficiently as possible, allowing us to help thousands more children and families every
year.

As we enter a period of renewed focus and growth, we are looking for a dedicated fundraising
professional to join our team. We operate as a lean, highly collaborative team where every role
has a direct, visible impact on the well-being of our neighbours in Ottawa.

Role Overview:

The Director, Resource Development is a vital member of our team dedicated to strengthening
our community's spirit of giving. This is a unique opportunity for a fundraiser who thrives on
variety: you will coordinate our approach to individual gifts and corporate partnerships, while
ensuring the careful stewardship of our donor data and administrative operations.

We are looking for a relationship-driven professional who can manage the day-to-day
requirements of a multi-year development strategy while remaining grounded in the details that
ensure our donors feel valued and our records remain accurate and reliable. You will join a
passionate team that values collaboration above all else, working closely with the Executive
Director and the Program Manager to support community impact.

Key Professional Responsibilities:

1. Community Giving & Resource Development

● Corporate & Business Partnerships: Develop corporate sponsorship opportunities and
proactively engage the Ottawa business community to foster new financial partnerships
and workplace giving initiatives.

● Individual Gift Development: Cultivate and steward a pipeline of individual donors at all
levels, using your experience in successfully securing gifts to advance our mission.

● Grant Management: Research, write, and manage grant applications for foundations and
government bodies, with a focus on local, Ottawa-based funding opportunities.

● Diversified Fundraising: Manage a multi-channel development program including direct
mail, monthly giving, teacher gifts, e-campaigns, and third-party community initiatives.

● In-Kind Support: Work in partnership with the Program Manager to secure in-kind
donations that support our programs, including school supplies and food hamper items.

2. Donor Stewardship & Community Presence

● Relationship Management: Act as a primary point of contact for supporters, ensuring they
receive meaningful updates, impact reports, and personalized stewardship.

● Community Engagement: Represent C&SE at external committees, community events,
and networking opportunities to help raise our profile within the city.

● Event Co-ordination: Provide co-ordination for existing community-led initiatives and
support the potential development of new internal fundraising events as organizational
needs grow.

3. Operational Excellence & Administration

● Data Stewardship: Manage the entry of all donations into our database. You will ensure
that every donation is recorded with a high degree of accuracy to support seamless tax
receipting and transparent reporting.

● Financial Oversight: Manage incoming mail and prepare bank deposits for all pledge
receivables.

● Liaison & Support: Act as the primary contact for Canada Helps and manage the general
info@ email account, providing exceptional service to our donors and the public.

● Program Support: Assist with the annual backpack packing event, Christmas Exchange
duplication checks, and other core organizational activities as part of our collaborative
team.

The Ideal Candidate:

● A Relationship Builder with Exceptional Communication Skills: You are passionate
about connecting with supporters and local businesses. You build trust through outstanding
writing and presentations, and your ability to communicate effectively, ideally in both
English and French, ensures our community feels heard and valued.

● A Thoughtful Professional who jumps in to help: You are happy to roll up your sleeves,
whether that means coordinating a new giving initiative, packing school supplies for a child,
or carefully entering a batch of donation cards. A CFRE designation or deep knowledge of
the Ottawa philanthropic landscape is considered a significant asset in this role.

● A Meticulous Steward of our Community’s Trust: You have an eye for the small things
and take pride in knowing that every record we keep is accurate. You understand that
managing high-volume data entry and financial administration with a high level of precision
is the foundation of reliable donor stewardship.

● A Compassionate Team Player: You believe in our "all-hands-on-deck" culture and thrive
in a small, supportive environment where everyone works together to make life a little
easier for our neighbours.

Why Join Us:

Joining the Caring and Sharing Exchange means joining a small but mighty team where your
work translates directly into meaningful support for individuals and families in our community.

● Meaningful Impact: Play a central role in the development work of an organization that
has been a household name in Ottawa philanthropy for over 100 years.

● Collaborative Culture: Work in a supportive, high-trust environment where your voice is
heard and your expertise is valued.

● Flexibility & Balance: We recognize the importance of life outside of work and offer a
flexible environment to help you manage your professional and personal commitments.

Qualifications:

● Experience: 3-5+ years of progressive fundraising experience with a documented history
of securing gifts across multiple channels.

● Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with donor management software (CRM) is required.

● Education: Post-secondary degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of
education and training.
