Through relationships, shared experiences, and partnerships, Heart Comonos helps residents
discover and share their gifts, strengthen personal agency, and foster collective spiritual,
mental, physical, social, economic, and environmental wellness.


Purpose


To design and implement Heart Comonos’ community development strategy in alignment with
its Theory of Change: moving participants from connection to belonging to agency and
ultimately wellness.


Role Overview


This role is responsible for building the relational and structural foundations that enable
individuals and partners to grow into leadership and active participation within the Heart
Comonos ecosystem.


The Manager of Community Development focuses on:


 Designing and stewarding community pathways to connection, belonging, agency, and
wellness.
 Managing volunteer and leadership development
 Cultivating community partnerships

Tiered Responsibilities


Tier 1: Strategic Community Design (Primary Focus)


1. Translate the Community Development component of the organizational Theory of
Change into operational community strategies.
2. Design participant pathways from first contact through leadership development.

3. Develop and document an Asset Based Community Development strategy tailored to
Heart Comonos.
4. Establish engagement metrics aligned with:
 Connection
 Belonging
 Agency
 Wellness


Tier 2: Volunteer and Leadership Development


1. Systematize recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of volunteers and leaders.
2. Identify, cultivate, develop emerging leaders.
3. Develop and facilitate small leadership circles or community cohorts. Initiate and develop
systems or structures that promote communities of practice.
4. Build on, innovate, and manage basic volunteer systems and documentation.


Tier 3: Community Partnerships and Collaboration


1. Identify and map connections for community assets and potential collaborators.
2. Build and steward key partnerships aligned with mission.
3. Coordinate collaboration processes in partnership with the Program Director.


Tier 4: Operational & Programming Support


1. Participate in weekly staff meetings.
2. Supervise select evening programs.
3. Select Saturday availability for program and project support.
4. Support inventory and logistics in coordination with Program Director.
5. Program and project evaluation support in collaboration with Program Director. Includes
but is not limited to designing, disseminating, and analyzing participant surveys and
questionnaires.
6. Reports to the Executive Director for all things relevant to volunteer and leadership
development processes, and to the Program Director for all program and project
logistical support.
7. Develop light administrative systems required for role effectiveness.

Year 1 Success Indicators

By 12 months, the Manager of Community Development will have:


 Documented a clear community development framework.
 Increased volunteer engagement and retention.
 Established at least one leadership development pathway.
 Created measurable indicators for belonging and agency.
 Develop at least 3 new strategic community partnerships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience


Required


 5+ years in community engagement or leadership development.
 Undergraduate degree or equivalent.
 Strong facilitation and relational skills.
 Experience managing volunteers.
 Systems thinking and documentation ability.
 Strong written and verbal English communication.


Preferred


 Experience with Asset Based Community Development (ABCD).
 Familiarity with Theory of Change logic models.
 Experience in values-driven organizations.
 Familiarity with diverse and multicultural environments.
 Cultural and linguistic competency reflecting the diversity of our community.
 Regular access to a vehicle.

Compensation


Compensation will be commensurate with experience, ranging from $50,000-$60,000 per year.


Includes three week paid vacation per year after the first three months of employment.


This is a hybrid work position that involves both virtual and in-person responsibilities in
Cooksville, Mississauga.
