Events & Communications Coordinator
White Rock BIA
Hybrid - Vancouver & Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley
White Rock, British Columbia
closes in 20 days (Mon, 13 Apr)
full time  •  $54000 to $58000 per year

About Us:

The White Rock Business Improvement Association represents and supports White Rock businesses through advocacy, beautification projects, event coordination, promotions & marketing, and economic development.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about organizing fun community events?  Do you enjoy creating engaging communication pieces?  Do you thrive in a dynamic work environment?

We’re looking for a talented, organized, and detail-oriented Events & Communications Coordinator to support the wonderful local businesses in White Rock.  We’re looking for someone who wants to create a vibrant community and is thrilled to work with people from all walks of life.

We’re a small organization and everyone wears many hats, so you need to be flexible and organized.  We want to work with people who are thoughtful, kind, and put community at the heart of their work.

Strong event planning and communications skills are a must.  Experience with digital and social media channels and an understanding of what makes them great would be fantastic.  Bonus points if you love the Oxford comma (or have a thoughtful argument for why you don’t).

Responsibilities:

  •      Help maintain effective communications with our members, the amazing small businesses of White Rock;
  •     Develop new events to attract people to White Rock and help coordinate ongoing and signature events of the White Rock BIA, such as the Summer Concerts series, the White Rock Craft Beer Festival, and the White Rock Jazz & Blues Festival;
  •      Grow and engage our audiences through effective day-to-day management of digital communication channels;
  •      Create content calendars that leverage each channel’s strengths to support the long-term goals of the White Rock BIA;
  •      Discover new and more efficient ways to communicate with our members, stakeholders, and the general public;
  •      Work with the ED to draft media releases and traditional advertising campaigns;
  •      Attend board meetings, take minutes, and provide additional support to board committees as needed;
  •      Provide administrative and office support;
  •      Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  •      Passionate about community and the wonderful businesses in White Rock;
  •      Event planning experience for events of all sizes;
  •      Excellent communication skills, with an ability to effectively craft communication pieces across different mediums;
  •    Tech-savvy with a strong background in digital and social media communications- including e-newsletters, website blogs, Facebook, and Instagram;
  •      Post-secondary education, ideally a post-secondary degree (particularly but not necessarily in English, Communications, or Marketing);
  •      Graphic design skills and experience, including with the Adobe Creative Suite, are a definite asset but not a necessity;
  •      Drivers’ License and access to a vehicle are an asset but not a necessity.

This is a full-time (35 hrs per week), hybrid position that primarily will work Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (with one hour unpaid lunch).  Some evenings and weekends are required to support events.  Time off in-lieu will be provided should additional work hours be required- we take the work/life balance seriously here.

This position is hybrid in nature- the successful candidate could work from home or the office at their choosing, but would be expected to be onsite for events and the occasional in-person meeting.

Salary: $54 000 to $58 000 per year with 10 personal or sick days per year, 3 weeks paid vacation, and additional paid time off over the Christmas season.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, please send your resume, cover letter, and any supporting documents (portfolio, references, etc) via email to:
