Summary of Destination Stewardship & Sustainability Specialist role:

The Destination Stewardship & Sustainability Specialist plays a vital role in advancing Destination Greater Victoria’s commitment to responsible tourism and a thriving, sustainable visitor economy. Working closely with senior leadership and a wide network of members and partners, this role drives the research, development, delivery, and measurement of impactful sustainability and circular economy initiatives. The Specialist takes initiative to identify opportunities, turn insights into action, and keep programs moving forward with a high level of organization and attention to detail. From supporting certifications and reporting, to engaging members and telling the region’s sustainability story, this role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution. It’s an ideal opportunity for a proactive, organized professional who is energized by collaboration, confident working independently, and motivated to help shape a more sustainable future for Greater Victoria’s tourism sector.

This position is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work in-office at least three times per week, requiring the successful candidate to be located in the Greater Victoria region. It is a full-time position, 35 hours per week.. The salary is between $60,000-$65,000. 

What you need to bring:

  • Experience in a multi-faceted business environment, the tourism and hospitality industry, sustainability programs and/or circular economy projects is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (graduate degree preferred) in business, sustainability and/or environmental management, such as business administration, circular economics, environmental or social sustainability, environmental sciences, or environmental management.
  • Understanding of sustainability concepts and principles, including the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently with guidance and support.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to synthesize information and key insights from multiple sources of information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Inquiring, with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
