Are you an Indigenous student looking for a fun work opportunity for the summer? M’akola Housing Society (M’akola) is looking for two (2) Summer Event Coordinators to join the team for the summer to plan and execute fun events all over the province! You will be barbecuing for tenants, playing games with the children, and driving and travelling to various locations across BC. 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Housing Operations (SDHO), the Summer Event Coordinator will be responsible for the M’akola Summer Tenant Appreciation Event program by creating, preparing, and executing exciting events in each region across the province. The Summer Tenant Appreciation Event program is intended to celebrate the community in which we serve, show appreciation to our tenants, and get to know our tenants on a personal level. The Summer Event Coordinator will be responsible for connecting with tenants directly to determine what kind of event they would appreciate, creating a plan, and making it happen!

This position is a temporary, 4-month term starting May 1, 2026 until September 1, 2026 for a student currently enrolled in a college or university course. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm based out of the Head Office in Langford when not travelling. This position’s wage is $21.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with the SDHO daily to determine priorities
  • Connect directly with tenants to explain the Summer Tenant Appreciation Event program
  • Determine from tenants what type of event they would appreciate and create a plan for each region
  • Travel to each region to execute the event by gathering products, setting up, communicating with tenants and regional staff, putting on the event, and cleaning up afterwards
  • Debrief after each event to determine lessons learned
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Other tasks that may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Currently attending a post-secondary institution
  • Experience in an office environment is an asset
  • Experience providing direct customer service to the public is an asset
  • Willing to acquire Level 1 first aid and Food Safe certificate (reimbursed by M’akola)
  • Experience in and with the Indigenous community would be an asset

Other

  • Must have a Class 5 drivers license
  • Provide a clear Criminal Record Check upon selection
