Mental Health Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Special Programs, the Mental Health Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the efficient and effective operations of our mental health clinic and community mental health initiatives. The role may involve flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event facilitation, community outreach activities and counselling clinic operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain patient appointment schedules.
  • Assist with patient registration, intake and discharge procedures.
  • Process payments and financial transactions related to therapy sessions.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely reimbursement and accurate record-keeping.
  • Respond to emails and phone calls promptly, providing clear and compassionate communication to clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and distribute program-related information to internal staff and external partners.
  • Support the development of mental health programs, including informal community-based initiatives tailored to address the unique needs of Black and African Canadian communities in Alberta.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and evidence-based mental health interventions.
  • Implement survey tools and collect valuable feedback from clients to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Organize and analyze survey data, preparing reports for program leaders and management.
  • Update and maintain the program's contact database to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute preventative mental health events.
  • Support event setup, take down and facilitation, ensuring events run smoothly and participants feel welcomed.
  • Liaise with partner organizations, community stakeholders, and mental health professionals to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or college diploma in social sciences, community development, public health, or a related field.
  • Program Coordinator experience preferably in mental health or community services
  • Strong understanding of mental health, Black mental health, and the specific barriers faced by African, Black, and Caribbean (ABC) communities in Alberta.
  • Sensitivity to mental health issues and a genuine interest in promoting mental well-being.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with data entry and basic data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
