CAMH Foundation
Vice President, Philanthropy
CAMH is situated on lands that have been occupied by First Nations for millennia; lands rich in civilizations with knowledge of medicine, architecture, technology, and extensive trade routes throughout the Americas. In 1860, the site of CAMH appeared in the Colonial Records Office of the British Crown as the council grounds of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, as they were known at the time. Today, Toronto is covered by the Toronto Purchase, Treaty No. 13 of 1805 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. Toronto is now home to a vast diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis who enrich this city. CAMH is committed to reconciliation. We will honour the land through programs and places that reflect and respect its heritage. We will embrace the healing traditions of the Ancestors, and weave them into our caring practices. We will create new relationships and partnerships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis and share the land and protect it for future generations.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation (CAMH Foundation) exists to inspire philanthropy that enables leading-edge research, care, and education at CAMH—Canada’s leading hospital for mental health. At a time when mental health needs are growing in scale and urgency, the Foundation plays a critical role in advancing innovation, reducing stigma, and ensuring that care reaches those who need it most. CAMH Foundation’s newly launched 2025–2030 Strategic Plan signals a pivotal moment—not simply to grow fundraising, but to reimagine philanthropy as a true movement. As the Foundation expands its reach, diversifies its donor base, and deepens engagement across communities, partnerships with the corporate sector and broader community will be central to achieving this ambition.
It is within this context that CAMH Foundation invites nominations and applications for the role of Vice President, Philanthropy, a position that will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mental health philanthropy in Canada.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and serving as a key member of the Foundation’s Executive Team, the Vice President, Philanthropy provides strategic leadership across all areas of individual giving, including mid-level, major, transformational, and legacy philanthropy. The role is responsible for driving significant and sustained revenue growth, overseeing a comprehensive donor pipeline, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional, personalized donor experiences. The Vice President will lead a high-performing team accountable for substantial annual revenue, while also maintaining an active personal portfolio of top donors and prospects, with individual annual fundraising goals in excess of $15 million. Working in close partnership with the Chief Development Officer, President & CEO, Campaign Cabinet, and senior volunteers, the Vice President will play a central role in advancing campaign strategy—from quiet phase through to public launch—ensuring alignment with CAMH’s funding priorities and long-term vision. In doing so, this role will directly contribute to CAMH Foundation’s strategic ambition to grow and diversify philanthropic support, increase unrestricted revenue, and build a more inclusive and representative community of donors.
Qualifications
Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, and must believe intrinsically in the importance of leading with curiosity, humility, and purpose. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and share how they see themselves contributing to CAMH Foundation’s mission, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of success in the role:
A) A demonstrated track record of success in leading major and transformational fundraising efforts, including the ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward complex gifts at the seven- and eight-figure level within large-scale campaigns;
B) Significant experience leading integrated philanthropy functions within complex, mission-driven organizations, with the ability to align strategy, people, and performance to achieve ambitious revenue goals;
C) Deep expertise in the full lifecycle of individual giving—from pipeline development and prospect strategy to personalized stewardship—paired with the ability to translate institutional priorities into compelling cases for support;
D) Exceptional relationship-building capabilities, with the credibility and presence to engage and influence senior donors, volunteers, board members, and executive stakeholders, combined with strong judgment, strategic agility, and a collaborative leadership style.
The expected salary range for this position is $180,000 – $215,000 CAD per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This posting reflects a newly created position within the organization.
