Vancity Community Foundation is a Vancouver-based charitable organization dedicated to advancing economic inclusion, community resilience, and equitable access to opportunities across British Columbia. Established by Vancity credit union, the Foundation operates as a catalyst for systems-level change, deploying capital, partnerships, and community-driven initiatives to address social, economic, and environmental challenges. Its work focuses on enabling communities—particularly those historically underserved—to build long-term financial security and social well-being. As a community foundation, it works with donors and partners to mobilize capital for social impact, stewarding over $105 million in assets and supporting more than 240 philanthropic funds. It disbursed approximately $32 million in funding in 2024 through a range of programs and initiatives to drive inclusive and sustainable economic development.

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership to Vancity Community Foundation and is accountable for advancing its mission to work with communities to create the economic, social, and environmental conditions to collectively thrive. The Executive Director leads the Foundation’s overall direction, performance, partnerships, and organizational culture, ensuring its work reflects a community-led approach and advances key priorities. The Executive Director oversees the Foundation’s philanthropic, social finance, granting, partnership, research, advocacy, and community investment activities, while stewarding strong relationships with Vancity, donors, community partners, staff, the Board, and affiliated stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate brings executive-level experience in a non-profit or foundation with operations or mission aligned to VCF such as social finance, community development, affordable housing, climate or inclusive economic development.  Commercially and financially literate, the preferred candidate is a values-driven and inspirational executive leader who can inspire trust internally and externally, lead through complexity, and steward an organization through transition and next-stage growth. This role is ideally suited to individuals who are naturally collaborative, have led sizeable teams, and enjoy the organizational complexity of working closely with other partners.

The expected base range for this role is $175-220k plus annual bonus, generous benefits and defined benefit pension plan.
