Compensation:          Starting at $34.50/hour

We operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, and community outreach services across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Position Summary

The Primary Care Paramedic provides immediate emergency response and rapid assessment for clients within and immediately surrounding the shelter setting. Working in close collaboration with nursing staff and recovery coaches, this role delivers trauma-informed, high-quality care within the full scope of PCP practice, while contributing to the spiritual and relational mission of Hope Mission.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response & Clinical Care

•     Attend and respond to medical emergencies within the shelter and surrounding property.

•     Respond to high-acuity or emergent wellness checks in coordination with nursing staff.

•     Provide high-quality care within the full scope of PCP practice, following AHS or Hope Mission established protocols.

•     Make timely transport decisions (within 15 minutes of patient contact) and coordinate with emergency agencies.

•     Deliver trauma-informed de-escalation and provide emotional and spiritual support during crises.

Documentation & Administration

•     Complete all required documentation, including charting, referrals, and scanning/uploading records.

•     Maintain emergency supply readiness, restock kits, and ensure secure clinical spaces.

Team & Program Contribution

•     Contribute to staff education (e.g., Naloxone training) and policy/procedure development.

•     Provide feedback on emergency response policies and engage in quality improvement initiatives.

•     Collaborate with the recovery coach to assist in referrals for frequent clients.

•     Participate in spiritual care activities and uphold the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.

Performance Expectations

Annual reviews will focus on timeliness and quality of emergency care, collaboration with other staff, safety practices, accurate documentation, and participation in team development.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

•     Completion of an accredited Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program.

•     Current licensure with Alberta regulatory body (ACP or equivalent).

•     Current individual professional liability insurance (as per ACP license).

•     Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Other Requirements

•     Hope Mission requires employees to agree with and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.

•     Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.

•     Able to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
