DUTIES

 

•       Prepares and cooks large quantities of food, three meals and snacks for up to 120 people in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and the Public Health department.

•       Cleans and disinfects the kitchen and its equipment according to the Public Health Department standards. Clean specific equipment to meet safety standards.

•       Conduct ordering of food from suppliers and donors with the assistance of the other cook.

•       Perform inventory control and keep a record of the kitchen storage.

•       Plan a 4-week menu that meets the cultural and dietary needs of residents, with the other cook following the Canada Food Guide and TSS.

•       Prepare a daily menu and post it on the steam table daily, according to the Canada Food Guide and TSS.

•       Clean and put away the dishes that were used for cooking.

•       Explain to the servers how they will serve the prepared meals for the day.

•       Receive deliveries, unpack food and store food and supplies, and dispose of the empty boxes in the recycling bins.

•       Carry and store food and supplies (up to 50 pounds).

•       Prepares service records and communicates with the Operations Manager.

•       Participate in kitchen reviews, training requested by TSSA, with the support of the Operations Manager.

•       Trains and supervises kitchen volunteers for program delivery.

•       Perform other duties as required: Serves food to Centre residents when needed, translates and interprets for clients related to food, and participates in team meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

•       Culinary Institute Certification or equivalent.

•       Food Handlers Certification is a must.

•       Must have a WHMIS certificate.

•       A minimum of twelve (12) months’ work experience providing large quantities of food preparation/cooking for up to 120 people per meal.

•       Able to cook Middle Eastern cuisine and international food.

•       Able to carry and lift up to 50lbs.

•       Knowledge of food habits and international nutritious cuisine.

•       Experience working in a shelter environment will be an asset.

•       Experience working with refugees and an understanding of issues related to poor nutrition and food starvation would be an asset.

•       Excellent communication, organization and coordination skills.

•       Fluency in English is a must. Ability to speak one of the following languages is considered an asset: Rohingya, Arabic, Farsi, Amharic, and Spanish.

•       Must provide valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) upon successful hire obtained within the last 6 months.
