The Jericho Hill Homelearner Society operates the Jericho Learning Centre, a cooperative learning community dedicated to enriching the lives of homeschooling and online-schooling children and youth in the Greater Vancouver area.
Located at Jericho Hill Centre (4196 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver), the Centre offers group enrichment classes taught by talented, local specialist teachers. Programs span a wide range of disciplines — from creative writing and improv to board game design, STEM, debate, visual art, theatre, and more — for learners between the ages of 8 and 17.
The Centre's core mission is to reduce isolation among home learners by offering engaging, in-person group learning experiences that build community, develop communication and leadership skills, and support the overall well-being of learners and their families. The program is inclusive and accessible, serving learners with a diverse range of learning styles and needs, including those with dyslexia, autism, anxiety, giftedness, and other learning differences.
Over the past year, the Jericho Learning Centre delivered 31 educational courses and hosted multiple workshops and events. The organization is run primarily by a dedicated community of volunteer parents and is governed by a Board of Directors.
The Jericho Hill Homelearner Society is seeking a highly organized and community-minded Operations & Program Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of the Centre.
Working closely with the volunteer leadership team, the Operations & Program Coordinator helps coordinate communications, class scheduling, membership and family support, workshops and events, and organizational administration.
This is a part-time contract position averaging approximately 10-15 hours per week. The role is hybrid, combining remote administrative work with on-site presence at classes, workshops, and special events at Jericho Hill Centre. Workload varies throughout the year, with greater activity during the fall, winter, and spring program terms and more flexibility during the summer.
Coordinate marketing and communications for classes, workshops, and events
Manage social media platforms and digital communications, including posting class schedules, photos, and videos
Maintain and update the organization's online presence and class listings on community platforms (e.g., Jericho Learning Centre Facebook group, UBC/Westside Vancouver Homelearners Social Group, Teen Homelearners Vancouver)
Coordinate promotional materials and course descriptions each term
Create or coordinate graphic materials for marketing and communications
Coordinate regular communications with enrolled and prospective families, including term schedule emails and course updates
Respond to inquiries from families about classes, registration, fees, and accessibility
Maintain the email list of current, previous, and interested families
Support families with payment plans and scholarship/reduced-fee arrangements
Liaise between teachers, volunteer coordinators, and families
Provide on-site operational support during select classes, workshops, and events
Track learner attendance and support class logistics
Assist with preparation and distribution of class materials and course descriptions each term
Maintain internal calendars and scheduling across the fall, winter, and spring terms
Support families with technical questions related to registration
Coordinate logistics for occasional (once or twice yearly) workshops and special events (e.g., craft fairs, field trips, Shakespeare workshops, seasonal events)
Support on-site and off-site event delivery, including set-up, clean-up, and volunteer coordination
Coordinate volunteer communications and scheduling
Support recruitment of specialist teachers and workshop facilitators
Coordinate teacher onboarding, Criminal Record Checks and scheduling
Serve as a point of contact for teachers regarding logistics and program support
Maintain organizational systems including Google spreadsheets and files
Liaise with the treasurer on financial administration
Maintain administrative records
Support strategic planning initiatives and board projects
Assist with grant applications
Track grant deadlines and reporting requirements
Assist with applications to home-learning school funding programs so families can apply learner funds toward classes
Support equipment and storage organization at Jericho Hill Centre
The Operations & Program Coordinator helps ensure that the Jericho Learning Centre's programs, classes, and communications run smoothly and that the community of learners and families feels well supported.
Success in this role may include:
Families receive clear, timely communications each term with up-to-date class schedules and course descriptions
Classes, workshops, and events are well organized, well supported, and accessible to a diverse range of learners
Social media and online communications effectively promote the Centre's programs and build community
Administrative systems, and digital files are organized and accessible
Grant applications and operational tasks are completed accurately and on schedule
Teachers and parents feel well supported in delivering the Centre's programs and mission
New families feel welcomed and find it easy to get started with the Jericho Learning Centre

The ideal candidate will bring many of the following skills and experiences:
Experience in nonprofit administration, community programming, or education
Strong organizational and project management skills
Experience managing social media and digital communications
Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva or similar platforms
Comfort working with Google spreadsheets
Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently within a volunteer-led, community-based environment
Experience working with volunteers, families, or youth programs is an asset
Familiarity with grant writing is an asset
An interest in or familiarity with home learning, alternative education, or inclusive learning communities is an asset
Contract position
Approximately 5-15 hours per week (seasonal)
$25-$30 per hour, depending on experience
Flexible scheduling, with some on-site commitments during classes, throughout the fall, winter, and spring terms
