Administrative Assistant: Full Time Temporary Summer Student Position (35 hours/week)
The Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student for a summer Administrative Assistant position. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a community-based, non-profit environment while supporting initiatives that help address food insecurity and strengthen community supports
Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the successful candidate will assist with documenting procedures, organizing information, and supporting ongoing work related to the Food Banks Canada Standards of Excellence Accreditation. This is a project-based role designed to build practical administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs Grant
To be eligible for this position the applicant must:
be a student
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Terms of Employment: Temporary, Full time
Salary: Hourly: $19.00
Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain polite and professional communication through all communication channels
Handle general office tasks, such as data entry, proofreading, and formatting documents
Collaborate with staff and volunteers
Periodically answer the main phone line and assist clients
Occasionally greet visitors at the front desk by welcoming and directing appropriately
Assist in ensuring the reception area is well kept and presentable
Support the creation of basic tracking tools and organizational resources
Perform data entry and assist with maintaining accurate records
Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving processes
Provide general support to daily operations when needed (e.g., sorting donations, assisting with food programs)
Performing miscellaneous job-related duties/projects, as required, by the team
Skills/Qualifications
Professional, polite, and willing to be accommodating to the needs of the Center
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficient using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and willingness to learn
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Previous administrative or volunteer experience is an asset but not required
Additional Requirements
Valid Class 5 driver’s license is an asset
Standard First Aid, CPR and AED is an asset
Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
Willing to sign a Code of Conduct and Oath of Confidentiality Agreement
