Warehouse Worker/Material Handling: Full Time Temporary Summer Student Position
(35 hours/week)
The Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student for a summer Warehouse Worker/Material Handling position. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a community-based, non-profit environment while supporting initiatives that help address food insecurity and strengthen community supports.
Working under the supervision of the Facility & Programs Manager, the successful candidate will support the day-to-day operations of the Nourishment Centre by assisting with food inventory, warehouse organization, food recovery, and garden maintenance. These responsibilities ensure the efficient handling and distribution of food resources.
Through food recovery and distribution support, the participant helps the Centre provide consistent services to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in the community.
This position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs Grant To be eligible for this position the applicant must:
be a student
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Salary: Hourly: $19.00

Key Responsibilities:
Maintain polite and professional communication through all communication channels
Collaborate with staff and volunteers
Enhance the operation of the Nourishment Centre through warehouse duties and client-focused programming
Assist volunteers with tasks: food sorting, fresh food recovery processing, loading and unloading vehicles, weighing incoming product, utilizing warehouse equipment such as a pallet jack, hamper assembly, organizing and sanitizing
Assist with the vegetable gardens – working outside, ground preparation, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and packaging food for distribution
Assist with food inventory management, including receiving, sorting, and tracking donation
Support the organization of the warehouse to ensure efficient use of space and accessibility
Help maintain cleanliness and safety in food storage areas
Participate in the preparation of food hampers and distribution to clients
Support general administrative tasks or food recovery efforts as needed
Support client intake services and administrative staff
Abide by and uphold safety standards in the workplace, including food safety
Assist in process documentation
Performing miscellaneous job-related duties/projects, as required, by the team
Skills/Qualifications
Professional, polite, and willing to be accommodating to the needs of the Center
Good communication skills – clear written and verbal communication with the ability to interact with staff and volunteers, clients, donors, and the general public
Have respect and consideration for others, while being trustworthy, nonjudgmental, and demonstrating confidentiality and discretion
Organization skills – be reliable and able to work within guidelines and meet expectations, accomplishing tasks both while working within a team and while unsupervised
Aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving
Accuracy – recording and tracking weights of incoming and outgoing food and supplies.
Heavy lifting is required on a regular basis
Computer skills – Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/Adobe/Canva
Forklift experience or certification is an asset.
Additional Requirements
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Standard First Aid, CPR & AED is an asset
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends if required
Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
Willingness to sign a Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement
