EPC is a non-profit organization providing employment services in the Peterborough area since 1982. We have a team-oriented, supportive work culture and seek motivated employees that are hard working and committed to ongoing learning. We are currently seeking an experienced Employment Counsellor: Resource Centre. This is a full-time, 14 month contract position.
Employment Counsellors in our resource centre are frequently the first point of contact for clients and must be committed to maintaining the highest standard of customer service.
Responsibilities:
Direct Client Assistance
- Conduct preliminary screening of all inquiries from potential clients and employers and provide information about programs and services
- Assist clients with resume writing, cover letters, interview skills and effective job search techniques
- Coach/counsel clients in effective job search techniques, labour market and occupational research, career planning and decision making
- Conduct practice interviews with clients and provide appropriate feedback
- Co-create social media posts and website updates
- Facilitate training and job search workshops and participate in the development of content
- Participate in the team approach to serving clients
Management of Resources
- Maintain current employment, training and career resources, including online resources
- Ensure that the resource centre is visually inviting, tidy and interactive
- Liaise with other community service organizations to maintain knowledge of external services
- Act as a resource for other front line staff
Administrative
- Manage incoming referrals and respond within 1 business day
- Document statistical information
- Learn and use new/specialized software as required
Qualifications:
Education and Training
- Requires relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
- Possesses Canadian Career Development Practitioner certification or is willing to work toward achievement of certification
- Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to learning and professional development
- Preference for those trained in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care and Bridges Out of Poverty
Experience and Competencies
- One or more years of experience in direct provision of career and employment counselling services
- Demonstrates an understanding of the components of the career and employment planning process
- Ability to analyze current occupational and labour market trends
- Group facilitation skills and experience
- Digital/social media skills
- Demonstrated ability in dealing effectively with the public - clients, employers and outside business contacts
- Clear communication skills
- Solid knowledge of community resources in the Peterborough area
- Excellent, up-to-date digital skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Working experience with Employment Ontario programs and systems is an asset
