Intake Coordinator – 1 Temporary Full Time (MAT Leave)

About us:
Kids Kottage provides care and shelter for children whose families may be facing a crisis. Established in 1995, Kids Kottage is a not-for-profit and charitable organization licensed to provide residential care for children aged 0-10.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a temporary full-time Intake Coordinator to cover a Maternity Leave for 1 year. The hours of work will consist of four 10-hour shifts from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
The Intake Coordinator supports families from the initial crisis call through post-discharge follow up. This role involves triaging admissions based on the highest priority of need, balancing timely admissions and discharges, and referring families to the appropriate external resources. Additionally, this role is responsible for providing caregivers with follow-up support after their child’s stay to assist the family with connecting to community resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responds to crisis line calls and inquiries, gathering necessary information and documenting interactions accurately and in accordance with program requirements.
Conducts initial assessments, identifies risk factors, and recognizes situations that require immediate escalation.
Maintains a professional, non-judgmental, strength-based attitude while working with caregivers and children during the intake and discharge process.
Refers families to appropriate external services and community resources, collaborating with community partners as required.
Demonstrates understanding of children’s emotional needs and integrates them into care plans in a developmentally appropriate manner in collaboration with caregivers.
Provides a welcoming and supportive introduction to the Crisis Nursery program for caregivers and children.
Completes and maintains required documentation, client files and data collection accurately; including monthly and annual reports.
Communicates with the Crisis Nursery team to coordinate admissions, transitions and discharges effectively.
Demonstrates cultural awareness and sensitivity when building relationships with caregivers, children, and colleagues across diverse backgrounds.
Maintains collaborative partnerships with community agencies and connects families with appropriate services.
Qualifications:
Holds a degree or diploma in Social Work or related human services field.
Two years of experience supporting individuals, children, or families experiencing crisis or instability.
Experience with managing a crisis phone line and knowledge of community resources is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
Provides and maintains clear Child Intervention Check and Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
Strong understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Problem Solving & Adaptability: Calm, organized, and solution-focused approach, especially in high pressure or rapidly changing situations. Advanced problem-solving skills, with strong judgment and situational awareness.
Work Environment & Remuneration:
Crisis Nursery, located at 13308 101 Street Edmonton, T5E 4G3
The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care for children 10 and under.
40 hours per week, Wednesdays to Saturdays and may include evenings and statutory holidays.
The hourly range for this position is about $23 to $27 per hour, based on education and experience.
