About SCLS
Scarborough Community Legal Services (SCLS) is a nonprofit, community based legal clinic that provides legal services to low-income individuals in a culturally diverse community. Our work includes individual casework, public legal education, law reform, and community development in the areas of housing, income maintenance, immigration, and employment law.
We are seeking an engaged and motivated social work student or recent graduate to join our team for the summer.
Position Summary
This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week. Work hours are generally Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some flexibility based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Community Support Worker will:
• Speak with clients to assess service needs and identify appropriate support
• Complete intakes with new clients
• Support administrative functions of the clinic
• Perform clerical and organizational tasks
• Provide holistic direct service that meets both the legal and non legal needs of clinic clients
• Research and connect clients to relevant community programs and services
• Complete warm referrals to external service providers
• Maintain accurate and timely client records
• Collaborate with the legal team and provide support on case files
• Participate in staff meetings and case discussions
• Carry out other duties as reasonably assigned
SCLS reserves the right to modify duties as required to meet operational needs.
Qualifications and Experience
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program or a recent graduate
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and working with low income communities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced setting
Eligibility Requirements
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Be legally entitled to work in Ontario
International students are not eligible under this program.
Compensation and Term
• 35 hours per week
• 8-week contract
• Start date: June 29, 2026
• Hourly rate: $27.00
