In addition, this role contributes to grant prospecting and proposal development in collaboration with the Executive Director and program staff, supporting the organization’s near-term revenue needs.

Working in close collaboration with leadership and the Manager of Communications, the Manager of Development brings structure, clarity, and consistency to donor engagement efforts, with a focus on monthly giving, major gifts, and legacy giving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate major gift prospects
  • Re-engage lapsed members and donors, and connect supporters with appropriate staff, leadership, or board members throughout their engagement journey
  • Strengthen and grow the monthly donor program and execute annual giving campaigns (email, direct mail, and digital appeals)
  • Develop donor-facing materials (e.g., appeals, updates, impact stories) in collaboration with the Manager of Communications, ensuring donor journeys are clear, consistent, and values-aligned
  • Develop and advance a legacy giving program, engaging key audiences (including the legal community) to grow planned giving interest

Grants and Foundation Funding:

  • Identify and assess grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to develop and draft competitive proposals

Equality Breakfast & Event Fundraising:

  • Play a leadership role in organizing the annual Equality Breakfast, including sponsorship strategy, outreach, and partner stewardship
  • Organize other fundraising and related events throughout the year (such as donor receptions and the AGM)

Systems & Pipeline Management:

  • Manage and ensure the integrity of WCL’s donor database, donation processing and tax receipting systems, and integrations with RedArc and Campaign Monitor
  • Maintain a clear and actionable donor pipeline using Raiser’s Edge, and prepare regular fundraising performance reports for leadership

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience, with a focus on individual giving, including:

    • Developing and implementing individual giving strategies
    • Using email marketing platforms and integrations (such as Campaign Monitor)
    • Planning and executing appeals, including writing copy, list segmentation and running online campaigns
    • Using a CRM (Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar) to manage and track donor engagement and giving
