Who We Are

Bethesda supports people with diverse abilities and their families with a wide range of services. From supported living, community-based activities and summer camps to LIFE services and family support, we empower people to thrive as they build meaningful, connected lives.

We are a Christian faith-based service provider committed to building communities of belonging, where each person’s gifts, abilities, and dignity are deeply valued.

Job Overview

Be prepared to be moved by the stories you help tell. As a communications assistant at Bethesda, you will play an important role in sharing the experiences of people with diverse abilities, their families, and the communities that support them.

You will bring your creative skills to Bethesda’s communications and marketing team, helping to write stories, create videos and other communication tools that reflect dignity, hope, and belonging. This role invites curiosity and attentiveness—taking time to listen, observe, and ask questions so stories are shared with integrity and respect.

This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs program and offers an 8-week, 35 hours/week opportunity starting July 6, 2026, with the potential to transition into a permanent position in the fall. It is designed as an early career opportunity, offering hands on experience, mentorship, and meaningful work in a supportive environment. You will work within a welcoming, Christ centered office culture where compassion, collaboration, and service guide our work.

Eligible applicants must be between 19 and 30 years old and hold a Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Job Duties and Assignments

As a communications assistant, you will support Bethesda’s communications work by helping to tell meaningful stories and share information in ways that are engaging, respectful, and accessible. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating on the creation of both short‑ and long‑form videos, including story planning, script writing, filming, and post‑production.
  • Creating engaging social media content, including graphics, captions, reels, posts, and stories that reflect Bethesda’s values and community.
  • Supporting the development of effective marketing and communication strategies through research, data review, and creative input.
  • Assisting with a variety of communication materials such as letters, newsletters, reports, presentations and other written or visual resources as needed.
  • Helping with website development, updates, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Maintaining and organizing the media library and supporting the growth of a broader digital asset management system.

Responsibilities may evolve over time, depending on organizational needs, your interests, and your developing skills.

Skills and Qualifications

This position is well‑suited to early career applicants who are eager to learn and grow in a communications role.  The following skills and qualifications will support success in this role:

  • A curious, learn oriented approach, with a willingness to listen deeply, observe thoughtfully, and ask questions—especially when working with nuanced stories where how something is shared matters as much as what is shared.
  • An openness to receive feedback and adapt, with respect for diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
  • Comfort creating and adapting content for social media platforms, including posts, stories, and short form video.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • An understanding of, or interest in learning about, marketing and communications principles.
  • Experience creating videos using video editing software such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency working in the Microsoft Office environment (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).

Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit holders; international students are not eligible).
  • Completion of standard requirements for working in environments that support people with diverse abilities, including a criminal record check, medical clearance, and immunization history.
  • •          Personal values in line with Bethesda’s Christian foundations and Guiding Principles.

Benefits

•         Wage: $25.50 per hour.

•         Onboarding and training will be provided.

At Bethesda, we’re about creating community among the people we serve, our staff and our surrounding communities. We are all interdependent as we experience life together, and all valuable for the abilities we share. We know we learn from and need each other to thrive.
