Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join the Resource Development team. Are you ready to be our Business Methods Analyst Student and make an impact in our community?

Job Purpose

The Business Methods Analyst Student will support agency-wide program planning, process documentation, and project management capacity within Bissell Centre. Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, this position will work with leadership, program teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners to gather information, standardize program and project planning documents, document current and future-state processes, and create practical tools for upcoming organizational projects.

 

This role will help strengthen consistency, accountability, and collaboration by supporting common documentation standards, ensuring process maps are developed and updated according to Agency standards, assisting with a simple framework to identify and monitor process improvements, and helping develop a sustainable project management approach that makes effective use of available technology.

 

This position is an 8-week contract funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. In accordance with program requirements, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. Candidates must also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Planning, Project Management and Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with leadership, program teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners to gather information and clarify program or project purpose, scope, timelines, roles, and deliverables.
  • Create, update, and organize standard program planning and project management documents, such as project charters, scope summaries, workplans, timelines, action trackers, decision logs, risk and issue logs, and status updates.
  • Review existing planning and process documentation and recommend simple templates, naming conventions, and documentation standards to improve consistency across teams.
  • Work with leadership and individual departments to review current agency-wide processes, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and document practical opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, update, and organize process maps in accordance with Agency standards, including current-state and future-state workflows, handoffs, and decision points.
  • Support staff and teams to validate program planning documents and process maps so they are accurate, usable, and reflective of current practice and desired future-state workflows.
  • Support a simple framework for identifying, selecting, prioritizing, and monitoring progress on process improvement initiatives.
  • Track project milestones, outstanding questions, follow-up items, and risks or barriers, escalating concerns to the Director as needed.
  • Prepare clear summaries, recommendations, and documentation to support decision-making and implementation by leadership and department teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle internal information, project documents, and stakeholder feedback with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in, or recently completed, post-secondary education in Business Analysis, Business Administration, Information Systems, Project Management, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience or coursework related to program planning documentation, process mapping, business analysis, project management, systems thinking, or continuous improvement is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. Familiarity with project management, process mapping, workflow, or documentation tools is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organizational and Project Management Skills: Has strong organization and process skills; meets deadlines; is able to prioritize a diverse workload and manage multiple projects at once; has keen attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Communication Skills: An excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills. Is an active listener and can effectively engage various audiences.
  • Digital Literacy: Understanding and proficiency with Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook (email) and Outlook Calendar) and process mapping software (LucidChart).
  • Professionalism: Ability to portray a superior level of professionalism and adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality.
  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with issues of poverty, community-based organizations, and the services they provide.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to recognize as well as assess emerging issues and situations objectively, think creatively outside the box, and make sound decisions; is decisive and accountable

Conditions of Work

  • This is primarily an in-office position. Hybrid work arrangements may be available depending on weekly operational needs and collaborative activities (approximately 20% remote work).
  • Flexibility of the working day is inherent in the position. The workload fluctuates. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Participation in organizational wide Community Safety Walks in the area of Bissell East and West, daily interactions with participants and community members served.

  • Plan: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.
  • Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

  • Drug Poisoning Prevention & Naloxone Training
  • Foundations in FASD
  • WHMIS
  • Other required training may be identified as required
