Job Summary:
Reporting to the Head of Lighting, the Assistant assists the Head in all departmental responsibilities, including lighting for all shows and concerts at the Winspear Centre, inventory and maintenance of equipment, training of roster crew, and running concerts and events.
This position is a contract that will run from September 2026 to June 2027, requiring you to work an average of 30 hours per week during that time. These hours will flex up and down depending upon department needs.
This position adheres to the Collective Agreement between the Winspear Centre and the IATSE Local Union No. 210.
What you will do:
Load in and out of clients, set up and tear down, and mind all lighting requirements
Control or assist with lighting department activity during concerts and events
Operate the lighting console with technical proficiency and artistic imagination
Liaise with client personnel on event days
Help to facilitate artistic choices to support each event’s unique needs
Troubleshoot issues with equipment and assist with coordinating repairs
Tying in of show power and bus shore power when required (mostly cam lock; being a certified electrician not required)
Work closely and communicate department needs with the Head of Lighting
Assist in maintenance tasks as assigned by the Head of Lighting
Assist in creating and maintaining organizational systems in the lighting department
Assist with special lighting projects and/or special effects
Keep accurate track of your hours and maintain your timesheet
Assist in the training, supervision, and scheduling of casual lighting staff
Participate in professional development opportunities
Maintain a clean control area and storage area
Other duties as reasonably requested
Qualifications
Experience with entertainment lighting equipment and control systems
Experience with troubleshooting modern lighting systems
Current fall arrest and first aid certification
Other certifications will be considered
Clear criminal record check
