Job Summary: 

Reporting to the Head of Stage Management, the Assistant Head of Stage Management is responsible for managing stage-related activities to ensure smooth operations of projects and events within the Francis Winspear Centre for Music. In the absence of the Head of Stage Management, the Assistant Head of Stage Management will assume responsibility for the department’s activities. This role requires working collaboratively with others, including the Lighting and Audio teams. 

This position is a contract that will run from August 2026 to June 2027, requiring you to work an average of 30 hours per week during that time. These hours will flex up and down depending upon department needs. 

This position adheres to the Collective Agreement between the Winspear Centre and the IATSE Local Union No. 210.  

What you will do: 

  • Ensure that a safe environment is maintained for staff, patrons, and performers

  • Assist with load in/out, installation, strike and maintenance of client and event-related stage production equipment

  • Assist with maintenance of all stage production equipment, including rigging and lift systems

  • Inform patrons and performers of emergent situations and complete incident reports as needed

  • Work with the Head of Stage for the supply of labour and equipment as required, in consultation with client representatives

  • Assist with preparation of annual budget requirements for operating and capital expenses, and track expenses

  • Attend client meetings as needed and distribute technical and other information to pertinent departments and client representatives

  • Accurately track your hours and maintain your timesheet

  • Assist in the training, supervision, and scheduling of casual stage staff

  • Participate in professional development opportunities

  • Maintain professional relationships with suppliers, clients and related organizations

  • Maintain clean and safe work and storage areas

  • Other duties as reasonably requested 

Qualifications: 

  • Previous Stage Management or related experience in an entertainment industry environment

  • Current Fall Protection, First Aid, and CPR certifications

  • Familiarity working with union (IATSE) crews 

Assets: 

  • Knowledge of the music industry with an understanding of orchestral requirements

  • Experience with industry riders and touring requirements

  • Familiarity working with union (IATSE) crews

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software, with proficiency in Excel
