This is a fulltime union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week**
DUTIES
• Develop, plan, and deliver culturally safe and linguistically competent activities to support elderly persons living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia.
• Build and maintain constructive relationships with each client and family members to enable productive and effective communication and ensure sustainable and holistic care support plan.
• Lead and assist in the implementation of recreational activities, ensuring that seniors actively participate and enjoy themselves. Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
• Ensure clients’ dignity, privacy and rights are well respected and protected in the program.
• Support the implementation of health and safety regulations in accordance with program requirements and organizational guidelines.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of seniors during recreational activities, considering any physical limitations or special needs. Be alert to safety concerns and respond promptly.
• maintain confidentiality of client’s information, care plan and records.
• Work collaboratively with other service team members, placement students, volunteers, and families, ensuring participants’ holistic needs are met.
• Organize and maintain supplies, equipment, and materials needed for various activities. Ensure they are well-stocked and readily available.
• Participate in team meetings and attend case management meetings with family and clients.
• Provide support to caregivers including planning and facilitating caregiver education and support groups.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Recreational therapy experience, especially as it relates to seniors with physical or cognitive impairment.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in providing supportive care and/or services to seniors in a group setting.
• Familiarity and understanding of Italian culture.
• Must be fluent in Italian.
• Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing and evaluating programs.
• Must have current WHMIS, First Aid training and Food Handling certificates (or willingness to obtain).
• Must undergo and successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) as a condition of employment.
• Passionate about working with individuals with the diagnosis of dementia.
• Positive, energetic, and enthusiastic individual capable of planning and executing a wide range of activities tailored to seniors with dementia.
• Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Excel, and online platforms is essential.
