The position of the Community Engagement Assistant requires a positive, energetic, and experienced person to help plan and coordinate large-scale events and support various programs and activities at the Neighborhood House. The Assistant is responsible for working with the team to support a wide range of community engagement activities for a diverse community. This role involves: planning and implementing activities and events, communicating with volunteers, coordinating volunteers, event setup and teardown, ordering and distributing supplies, food preparation, marketing, reception duties, and providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere for participants to engage in activities.


General Duties and Responsibilities:
▪Supports the Community Engagement in planning and implementing summer events such as block parties and parades
▪Sets-up and takes down events and manages supplies.
▪Communicates with volunteers prior to events and coordinates them during events
▪Develops positive relationships with participants and acts as a role model and mentor
▪Markets events and programs by designing posters and doing social media promotion
▪Purchases and distributes supplies for events and programs
▪Works within budget limits
▪Support Community Engagement’s weekly programs and lead activities with diverse groups
▪Participates in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
▪Assists with front reception and information referral
▪Inclusive attitude towards people of diverse cultures, genders, ages and sexual orientations
▪Provide support to the Community Engagement staff members
▪Provide support to other BNH programs as needed
▪Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications and Skills:
▪Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
▪Positive attitude and outgoing personality
▪Excellent time management skills
▪Excellent organizing skills and ability to work independently
▪1-2 years’ experience with events.
▪Knowledge and awareness of issues surrounding diversity and multiculturalism.
▪Advanced skills and experience with Microsoft Office, social media, and Canva.
▪Current Basic 1st Aid certification (an asset)
▪Level 1 FoodSafe certificate (an asset).
▪Class 5 Driver’s License (an asset).


Hours of Work & Rate of Pay: The Summer Community Engagement Assistant will start on June 22, 2026 and needs to work 35 hours a week (including some evenings and weekends) over an 8-week period. The wage is $22.10 per hour. This position starts on June 22, 2026 and ends on August 14, 2026.
