REPORTS TO: Manager – Outreach & Development

WORK HOURS: 35 hours/week (in-person)

RATE OF PAY: $17.60 per hour

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Fixed-term contract  (8 consecutive weeks) June 22, 2026 – August 14, 2026

Job Summary

Reporting to the Outreach and Development Manager, the Community Service Worker supports the organization’s Poverty Reduction Programs, including the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, Ontario Electricity Support Programs, Community Care Closet and Financial Empowerment Services. The role provides comprehensive administrative support for these programs and assists with program facilitation. The Community Service Worker also collaborates with the team to deliver financial empowerment education and information sessions. 

Duties and Responsibilities

•       Respond to inquiries (via phone, email or in-person) in a timely manner

•       Conduct intake process from beginning to end or all benefit applications

•       Review clients’ documents to verify their eligibility and to provide your input to the coordinator.

•       Manage the upload of all program documentation and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date program data sheets.

•       Do a thorough needs assessment for proper information and referral to resources to help clients with issues related to financial insecurity, food insecurity, disability, health crisis, immigration, education, etc.

•       Liaise with electricity or natural gas providers to advocate on behalf of client to pause any further disconnection or collection activity on their account until a decision is made of eligibility.

•       Ensure accuracy of the input of clients’ information.

•       Attend meetings when requested with the Coordinator with utility companies for updates, concerns and issues.

•       Create opportunities to increase community belonging and inclusiveness with a DEI approach

•       Assist with Community Care closet operations: Creating orders and communicating with the participants

•       Conducting inventory checks and reporting stock to Coordinator

•       Update and maintain Care Closet Databases

•       Support the outreach team with events, special projects, donation pickups and drop-offs

•       Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

Required:

•       Exceptional customer service skills 

•       Solid understanding of confidentiality, professional codes of conduct and diplomacy 

•       Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills  

•       Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills 

•       Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.  

•       Sound digital literacy, able to use MS Teams, Zoom, Google, etc., social media and Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet and other tools required for the role 

•       Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds; various Inclusion Groups, including people with complex barriers 

•       Flexible, self-motivated and self-reliant and ability to work effectively in a team environment 

•       Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks 

•       Knowledge and competence with relevant equipment for podcasts, social media
