The Giving Leaders Opportunities for Wonder (GLOW) program of the Jane/Finch Centre provides opportunities for children up to 12 years old to participate in academic, social, and recreational activities. We offer a safe and welcoming environment open to children in the Jane and Finch area, to play, relax and interact with peers. 

Reports to: EarlyON Manager  

Position Overview:  

The Jane/Finch Centre is currently filling a position for a Sports and Rec Summer Camp Lead. This is a full time position for 8 weeks starting on June 29th, 2026, with a wage rate of $17.60 per hour.  

General Responsibilities:  

The GLOW Sports and Rec Summer Camp Lead will assist in providing sports related opportunities for  children from 0 to 12 years old to participate in a day camp experience that promotes fun through learning and  adventure. They plan activities that will include leadership and mentorship support, using sports and  recreation, field trips to local attractions, arts and crafts, math and science experiments, cooking, dance and  music, and cultural excursions. This position will be located within any of JFC’s service locations based on  community and program requirements. The locations (multiple, indoor and outdoor) for this position may be added or moved to new  addresses in the future according to the community and program requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:  

  • Plan 6 week summer high-quality and inclusive program that is intentionally designed to achieve GLOW outcomes  
  • Support the planning and facilitation of EarlyON Child and Family programs on non-camp days, including preparing materials, setting up program spaces, and assisting with program delivery  
  • Maintain the program’s safety by completing daily environmental checks that ensure safe and  effective program delivery for participants  
  • Ensure that appropriate JFC’s policies and procedures are implemented
  • Support children with respect to their culture, values, and developmental level  
  • Interact with parents, school staff, and key stakeholders  
  • Participate in housekeeping activities  
  • Purchase supplies and refreshments for the program  
  • Ensure administrative tasks are completed  
  • Support in the completion of weekly and monthly reports 
  • Recruit participants and volunteers for the program  
  • Conduct strategic outreach for the program  
  • Maintain relationship with the public schools and JFC staff  
  • Support volunteers and students in the program  
  • Represent JFC’s in its entirety and in a professional manner  
  • Understand the legal responsibilities and moral responsibility to report suspected child abuse to CAS  
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

 

  • The minimum level of education preferred is a Community College Diploma in Early Childhood  Education, Recreation and Leisure, Child and Youth Work or related field  
  • One to two years of experience in working with school age children in a daycare or school settings preferred
  • Minimum one year experience in facilitating, mentoring or instructing youth-related programs  
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; detail-oriented  
  • Experience in sports or high level physical activities  
  • Experience in behaviour management  
  • Experience working with low-income, multi-racial, multi-lingual newcomer communities  
  • Experience working from an integrated anti-oppression, LGBTQ+ positive framework  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite, emails, and computer programs  
  • Good understanding of child development and the needs of children  
  • Ability to keep information confidential  
  • A successful Vulnerable Sector Screening  
  • Valid First Aid, CPR certification, and TB testing  

Employment Conditions:  

  • An Incumbent will be required to provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to  their first day of employment.  
  • An Incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their current one-step tuberculosis test prior to their first day  of employment.
