WorkLink Employment Society is recruiting a Job Developer to work on a hybrid basis in the community of Westshore and Sooke. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who excels at building relationships with stakeholders, understands job searching and the local labour market, and has a background in employment coaching supporting individuals with diverse abilities. 

This is a term position pending renewal of the WorkBC contract (current expiry date is March 31, 2027). Reporting to the WorkBC Contract Manager, the chosen candidate will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with an hourly rate of $32.70 to $33.36, and will receive two weeks of paid vacation during the contract. 

About The Society:

WorkLink has provided government-sponsored employment services to the residents of the Victoria Capital Region’s Westshore (Colwood, Langford, Highlands, View Royal, and Metchosin) since 1978.  In 2008, our services expanded to include the communities of Sooke and surrounding areas including Jordan River and Port Renfrew. We are also pleased to provide Indigenous outreach services to the First Nations Communities of Beecher Bay, T’Sou-ke, and Pacheedaht. Our non-profit organization is funded through both federal and provincial government initiatives. WorkLink is a registered charity in the Province of BC, which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors chosen from leaders in the community.

About The Position:

The Job Developer plays a crucial role in helping increase client confidence and self-sufficiency by coaching, motivating, and supporting clients to achieve sustainable employment or a community attachment outcome appropriate for their needs and circumstances. 

Key Duties:

  • Contact local employers and industry partners to identify current job leads and future hiring needs
  • Promote the wage subsidy program to employers and eligible clients
  • Apply trauma-informed principles to build trust and develop a positive relationship with clients
  • Conduct discoveries to identify a client’s skills, experience, interests, employment goals, and necessary conditions for success
  • Collaborate with clients and employment advisors to assess and create a targeted job search plan
  • Develop individual client-focused marketing plans that promote the client’s strengths and abilities
  • Identify employers to participate in experiential learning and community attachment placements
  • Develop on-the-job training opportunities, work trials, subsidized or unsubsidized job placements, job shadowing, and volunteering opportunities
  • Assist clients with resume building, job search strategies, and interview preparation
  • Match clients with appropriate job openings and guide them through the application process
  • Act as a client advocate and market clients to employers
  • Assist clients with arranging meetings and interviews, providing ongoing coaching and support
  • Connect with clients to conduct interview debriefs and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Negotiate wage subsidies and accommodations with employers
  • Support the client’s workplace integration by guiding them on the onboarding process and coaching on workplace standards
  • Visit worksites and conduct regular check-ins to monitor the client’s progress on the job
  • Mediate any challenges or conflicts that arise between the employer and client
  • Connect clients with additional community supports to reduce barriers to long-term employment
  • Manage client case files and document client progress in ICM in accordance with WorkBC policies
  • Prepare reports to track attainment of targets
  • Attend Employment Services team meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least 3 years of experience in employment services case management and job development, supporting and coaching individuals with barriers to success
  • Degree or Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation, Career Development, or Social Work preferred
  • Client-focused and compassionate with working knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining professional relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Proven record of establishing and maintaining valuable connections with employers and community agencies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WorkBC policy
  • Solid knowledge of the local labour market including industry trends and hiring demands
  • Clear understanding of BC Employment Standards legislation and the BC Human Rights Code
  • Proven ability to assist clients in navigating detailed or complex information
  • Solid understanding of current job search strategies and cover letter/resume best practices
  • Proven skills in resolving problems and developing creative employment solutions
  • Clear, positive and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in persuasion and negotiation 
  • Proficient in ICM and Office 365
  • Committed to client confidentiality
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries
  • Exemplary organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and adapt to changes
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to share best practices
  • Clean, valid Class 5 driver’s license for work-related travel
  • Mental Health First Aid certification an asset
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required as a condition of employment
