Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join the Finance team. Are you ready to be our Accounting Clerk Student and make an impact in our community?

About the Job

The student will assist with maintaining accurate financial records while developing practical workplace skills, professionalism, and an understanding of finance operations within a mission-driven organization.

 

This position is an 8-week contract funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. In accordance with program requirements, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. Candidates must also be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

 

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Support

  • Assist with processing purchase invoices and payment requests in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist with vendor setup and maintenance under the direction of the Finance team.
  • Provide administrative support for accounts receivable activities, including filing and record maintenance.
  • Create reconciliations for accounts and programs.
  • Complete bank reconciliations to support month end processing.
  • Respond to basic internal and external inquiries in a professional and courteous manner, escalating issues as needed.
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper files in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Finance team.

 

Process Improvement and Documentation

  • Assist with reviewing and updating financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, including documentation, automation, and efficiency projects.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary courses in Accounting, Finance, Business or other relevant field.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience in similar and/or relevant position is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty and Edmonton’s urban core and knowledge of relevant community and government resources is considered an asset.

  • Software Usage Proficiency: Intermediate Microsoft Office capability, specifically Excel and Outlook.
  • Professionalism: Ability to act professionally and adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality.

  • Communication Skills: An excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Service and Results Oriented: Is focused on delivering high quality results both in accounting work and camp customer service.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to recognize as well as assess emerging issues and situations objectively, think creatively outside the box, and make sound decisions; is decisive and accountable.
  • Organizational and Project Management Skills: Has organization and process skills; meets deadlines; can prioritize a diverse workload and manage multiple projects at once; and has keen attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Interpersonal and Relationship Building Skills: Approachable, with the ability to build trust and respect, and cultivate strong positive relationships with various stakeholders.

 

Conditions of Work

  • Flexibility of the working day is inherent in the position. The workload fluctuates. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Conflict into Calm Training
  • Drug Poisoning Prevention & Naloxone Training
  • Foundations in FASD
  • WHMIS
  • Other required training may be identified as require
