About Hope Mission

Hope Mission is a Christian non-profit social care agency that has been serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929. We operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, and community outreach services across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Our work is grounded in our Christian faith and our commitment to walking alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction.

Position Summary

The Social Media Coordinator manages Hope Mission’s social media presence across all main platforms, creating and posting engaging content that reflects our mission to serve vulnerable Albertans. This role develops and executes the social media content calendar, monitors comments and messages, and responds to community engagement in a timely and pastoral manner. The Coordinator collaborates with program teams across shelter, recovery, and outreach services to share authentic stories and updates that build awareness and donor engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation and Publishing

  • Plan, create, and publish original content (written posts, photos, graphics, short-form video, and stories) across Hope Mission’s primary social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others as appropriate.
  • Capture content on-site at Hope Mission programs and events, including photography and short video.
  • Ensure all content is consistent with Hope Mission’s brand, voice, and Christian values.

Content Calendar and Strategy

  • Develop, maintain, and execute a rolling social media content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, fundraising campaigns, seasonal moments, and program milestones.
  • Coordinate with the Communications and Development teams to support campaigns, events, and donor stewardship.
  • Track and report on key social media metrics, providing regular insight on what is and isn’t working.

Community Engagement

  • Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and tags across all platforms daily.
  • Respond to questions, comments, and inquiries in a timely, respectful, and mission-aligned manner.
  • Escalate sensitive issues, complaints, or media inquiries to appropriate leadership.
  • Foster a positive and engaged online community of supporters, donors, volunteers, and the broader public.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with program teams (shelter, recovery, outreach, youth) to surface stories, milestones, and content opportunities.
  • Partner with the Development team to support fundraising appeals, donor recognition, and campaign launches.
  • Maintain appropriate consent and confidentiality standards when sharing stories involving program participants.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience managing social media for an organization, business, or cause (non-profit experience an asset).
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and scheduling/analytics tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar).
  • Basic graphic design and photo/video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar).
  • Sound judgment in handling sensitive topics and online interactions, particularly given the populations Hope Mission serves.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and maintain confidentiality.
  • Alignment with Hope Mission’s Christian faith and values, and willingness to represent the organization in a manner consistent with our statement of faith.

Assets

  • Photography or videography experience.
  • Familiarity with the social services, homeless-serving, or faith-based non-profit sectors.
  • Experience supporting fundraising or donor-facing communications.
