The Food Program Coordinator position supports the day-to-day operations of The People’s Pantry’s food rescue and distribution program, helping to ensure smooth, consistent service for hamper recipients. The role is hands-on and operational, with a focus on food handling, volunteer support, and maintaining an organized and safe pantry environment.
This position reports to the Executive Director.
Support and help oversee weekly pantry operations, including food receiving, sorting, and distribution.
Provide guidance and support to volunteers during pantry shifts.
Assist with the coordination of food rescues, including scheduled pickups at local retailers and backup support for other donors.
Coordinate and support food transportation from donors as needed.
Maintain accurate records of food donations, volunteer hours, and hamper distribution.
Ensure food is handled, stored, and distributed in accordance with basic food safety practices.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pantry space, including cleaning and waste management (recycling, compost, disposal).
Support inventory awareness and appropriate use of available food.
Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for volunteers, staff, and community members.
Assist with basic operational coordination and communication as needed.
Other related duties as required to support pantry operations.
Schedule
Sundays: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Mondays: 12:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Administrative work is flexible, remote
Approx. 16 hours per week
$27.85/hour (Living Wage)
Temporary contract (approx. 16 weeks) with possibility of extension, dependent on funding
Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative in a hands-on environment.
Highly dependable with strong attendance and time management.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active role.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Proficiency with basic computer tools (email, spreadsheets).
High level of professionalism, reliability, and respect for confidentiality.
Police Information Check required.
Preferred
Experience in food security, food handling, or community services.
Experience working with volunteers.
Working Conditions
On-site in Port Moody. Admin work can be completed remotely.
Physical work, including lifting, sorting, and moving food.
Fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Mileage reimbursement.
