part time - temporary / contract  •  $20.00 - $24.00 hourly rate

This Temporary, Part-Time (28 to 35hrs/wk) position involves working hands-on in landscaping, performing grounds maintenance duties, construction and moving jobs, and operating various landscaping tools. In this position, you will be working outside in all weather conditions for extended periods.

 

CommCrew is a social enterprise operated by Communitas that provides employment training to people with disabilities and/or mental health challenges, while also providing landscaping and maintenance services to Communitas locations and external customers. Some of the landscape and property maintenance services we offer include hedge and tree trimming, leaf collection and removal, exterior pressure washing, window washing, parking lot and driveway cleaning, lawn maintenance and seasonal clean-up.

 

TASKS PERFORMED

  • Landscaping duties including mowing lawns, cutting hedges
  • Using power equipment including pressure washers, leaf blowers, weed whackers and Lawn mowers
  • Grounds maintenance and cleanup of sites at various locations
  • Lifting and removing debris, rocks, clippings and branches
  • Dump and recycling run, loading and unloading
  • Climbing Ladders for hedge cutting, gutter cleaning and roof clearing.
  • Moving furniture and other items to and from various homes and businesses
  • Keep working area clean and safe from hazards
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment
  • Clean and store all equipment ready for next user
  • Communicate operational, personnel, and equipment problems to supervisor
  • Work alongside other team members or Work Experience trainees
  • Maintain an awareness of the goals and philosophies of Communitas Social Enterprises (CSE)
  • Interact and maintain good relations with customers, the general public and stakeholders in a way that reflects well on Communitas and CSE
  • Other duties as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be physically able to lift and carry a minimum of 50lbs and stand for lengthy periods of time
  • Experience in landscaping and using hand and power tools
  • Must provide own steel-toed boots (Canadian Standards Association approved)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Must be reliable, punctual and able to take initiative
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in work routines
  • Ability to model appropriate behaviour for trainees at CSE (conduct, work performance, compliance with policy and procedures, professionalism, integrity, etc.)
  • Possession of a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Ability to tow enclosed trailers, utility trailers, and drive work pick-up trucks
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
