Position Summary

The Delivery Driver plays a vital role in Food Bank Alberta’s provincial distribution system. This position will operate a 10ton refrigerated truck (reefer) to transport food donations, bulk product, and essential supplies between the FBA warehouse and member food banks across Alberta.

The Delivery Driver is committed to representing Food Banks Alberta with care and integrity, ensuring that deliveries are completed professionally and punctually.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a 10ton reefer truck for scheduled deliveries and pickups
  • Confidently use electronic logging devices (ELDs) to accurately track hours of service and maintain compliance 
  • Load and unload pallets, cases, and assorted food items using pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment 
  • Complete delivery routes across Alberta, including rural and urban locations 
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, paperwork, and vehicle inspection reports 
  • Communicate clearly with warehouse staff and member food banks regarding delivery timing and any issues encountered 
  • Uphold Food Banks Alberta’s values of respect, dignity, and community service in all interactions 
  • Support general warehouse tasks as needed, including sorting, staging, and inventory movement 

Education and Experience

•        Valid Class 5 drivers’ license

•        Experience operating larger vehicles (10-ton preferred)

•       Previous warehouse or delivery experience (2-3 years) is an asset

Knowledge and Skills

•        Knowledge of safe loading, unloading, and cargo securement practices

•        Experience using electronic logs or willingness to learn

•        Forklift certification is an asset

•        Basic technology use – comfortable using mobile apps, scanners, or electronic logging systems

•        Commitment to safe driving practices, adhering to all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and organizational policies while maintaining a clean and responsible driving record

•        High attention to detail, ensuring delivery information is verified, discrepancies are identified, and all required documentation is completed accurately and on time

•        Strong problem-solving abilities, effectively responding to traffic, weather, or route changes and independently resolving delivery-related issues as they arise

•        High degree of accountability and integrity taking responsibility for deliveries, vehicle operation, and organizational assets while demonstrating honesty, professionalism and sound judgment

Working Conditions

Ability to regularly lift up to fifty (50) pounds and perform physical tasks safely.

Work must be completed at the physical location.  There is no option to work remotely.   

Additional Information

A 5-year clear commercial drivers abstract is required for this position.

Proof of experience driving a similar size of vehicle is required by our insurer.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.

As a condition of employment, this role requires a clear criminal record check. Criminal record checks must be completed on an annual basis or as organizational policies require.
