Hope Mission is a Christian non-profit social care agency that has been serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929. We are one of Alberta’s largest social service agencies and currently operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, community outreach services, housing programs, and health programs (delivered through our HopeHealth division) across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Position Summary

Hope Mission is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Worker to support the safe, clean, and functional operation of our facilities across Edmonton. This role performs a wide variety of building maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks across multiple sites. It requires hands-on experience in multiple trades, a valid driver’s licence, and a heart for serving vulnerable populations with compassion, respect, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Building Maintenance & Repairs

•         Perform routine and preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.

•         Complete general repairs including drywall, painting, flooring, doors, windows, and fixtures.

•         Conduct carpentry work such as framing, repairs, shelving, cabinetry, and assembly of various types of furniture.

•         Perform basic electrical work including replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures, and troubleshooting minor issues within scope and code                   equirements.

•         Perform basic plumbing tasks such as repairing leaks, replacing faucets and toilets, and clearing drains.

•         Assist with inspections and identify maintenance issues requiring repair or contractor support.

Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance

•         Maintain exterior grounds including snow removal, lawn care, litter removal, and general site cleanliness.

•         Perform seasonal maintenance such as ice control, yard work, and minor exterior repairs.

•         Ensure walkways, entrances, and emergency exits remain safe and accessible at all times.

Safety & Compliance

•         Follow all workplace health and safety regulations and safe work practices.

•         Ensure tools and equipment are used properly, maintained in good working condition, and returned to their proper storage locations.

•         Report safety hazards, damage, or required major repairs to the supervisor promptly.

•         Support compliance with building codes, fire safety requirements, and shelter standards.

Transportation & Support

•         Drive company vehicles to transport tools, materials, and equipment between locations.

•         Assist with set-up and tear-down for events, room reconfigurations, or emergency needs.

•         Support other departments as needed to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

•         Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving record.

•         Minimum 2–3 years of experience in general building maintenance or a related trade.

•         Demonstrated experience in carpentry, basic electrical, and basic plumbing.

•         Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.

•         Trade certification or coursework in a related field (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or building maintenance) is preferred.

•         Experience working in shelters, non-profits, or community-based organizations is an asset.

•         Knowledge of Alberta building codes and safety standards is an asset.

•         Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

•         Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks across multiple sites.

•         Good communication and teamwork skills.

•         Dependable, flexible, and able to respond to urgent maintenance needs, including after-hours call-outs.

Physical Requirements

•         Physically capable of lifting, bending, standing, and working indoors and outdoors in all seasons.

•         Comfortable working across multiple locations and in exposure to weather extremes.

Other Requirements

•         As a Christian organization, Hope Mission requires employees to sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.

•         Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.

•         Able to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check.

•         A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.

•         Adherence to Hope Mission’s policies and procedures.
